Hi all, i'm currently in the market for an Evo and would like any advice on these vehicles i live in Australia, any info would be greatly appreciated. Currently looking for VII,VIII or IX. Preferably MR models but, would also consider FQ340,360.
Have always been a fan of the Evo but haven't kept uptodate with stats, pros or cons. Are the FQ's available in Oz ?
What typical traps should i be looking for when purchasing ?
More than likely buying something pretty stock but, if highly modified what should i be looking out for, to give me a clear indication on what to for eg. tick in good or bad box ? Would be much appreciated for any info you could pass on or suggest to me....

Yours Thankfully

Bailey.

Is the mid range torque difference so big that you have to downshift in the VIII to pass ? If you floor from a say 40mph roll in 3ed will the IX pull a good car length or two?
1) The X is a better Evo.
2) Both the VIII and the IX have horrible horrible turbo lag stock. The X isn't much better. To answer your question in short: Yes, you do, quite a lot until the car gets more modified. I remember going from 5th to 4th on the freeway tons of time. Boy do I not miss that at all.

And to the OP: Get a IX or X. You can more than likely find a gently used (or even new, with good deals) X for the same price as a decent shape IX. And no matter what anyone tells you, in the long run, you'll be happier.

it's between an 05 or 06. whenever you do find the perfect one, consider getting a pre-purchase inspection. it'll help you make a better decision. companies like aim mobile inspections and carchex offer this service at a reasonable price. hope that helps!

The best Evo I ever drove, by far, was a 2001. So if you aren't in the states, go for an Evo VI.
