Buying my first EVO

Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying my first EVO.
It's a 2004 EVO 8. The dealership is asking $16k for and it has 158k miles....
KBB/NADA only books the car around $10-13k. Should I pass the car up or not?
The car is also completely stock beside intake

Hey welcome aboard EvOM @Jchamb32

Yeah, buying from a dealer, you will have to contend w/their high markup from their cost

You can always share the link so we can view this EvO & give a better opinion

EvO 8 & 9 prices are on the rise

First things first... Clean title? When buying my evo I found that a lot of dealerships in my area were selling rebuilt/salvage title and not disclosing that. 16k seems on the high side for 158k miles, not surprising for a dealership though. Personally, when looking at evo's I decided not to purchase one from the dealer for a couple reasons.. A. Why would anyone that cared about their evo trade it in... something must have been wrong with it or they were sick of it and went the easy route trading it in. B. Usually dealership has NO CLUE what's been done to this C. Employees more than likely beat on it D. They are usually overpriced through dealerships. In my OPINION, you're better off looking and waiting for the perfect private party sale - that's what I did and I'm glad I did. Someone who meticulously cared for it, changed fluids regularly, focused on the small stuff. Then you know they definitely take care of the bigger more important things (timing belt change, diff flush/change etc).

Checked it out. My comments
  • Looks like a SSL EvO (sun, sound, leather)
  • Nice job of making the outside paint look OK
  • With the high miles, it likely was a DD & exposed to the weather
  • Heat shield missing from exhaust mani
  • I see a manual boost controller
  • Aftermarket upper intercooler pipe w/stock BOV. Open intake
  • Battery looks jury rigged w/that strap due to the upper IC pipe
  • Radiator has been replaced
  • The front xmbr in the engine bay shows signs of corrosion (wonder what the undercarriage looks like)
  • Aftermarket FMIC
  • Brembos have been repainted or rebuilt?
Id pass on this one
