How many members still have the 1st yr production model (2008) ?
Just wondering how many members here have the 1st year production model? any problems so far?.....my 2008 been trouble free and lost count how many times I've been to the track {thumbup}

Sorry to thread-jack, but this would be particularly useful (to me) if each owner of a 2008 said whether their timing chain (a) is known to have stretched, (b) is known to be fine, or (c) is in unknown condition. Mine is stretched to the point where it occasional throws the code. 16k miles. Some time spent on the rev limiter (autocrossing).

2008 with 70,000 KM's. Had a problem with the power steering pump at 10,000KM's, stock radio **** the bed sometime around there too, both replaced under warranty. No idea what the power steering pumps problem was, never really heard of anyone else having theirs replaced, sounds like an isolated incident.
I've launched the car about 50 times at the strip and just as many if not more elsewhere, and am constantly tracking the car. Running multiple 12.2-12.4's. Still on stock turbo at 365 whp, but still, no drive train problems at all. You'd think my transmission, transfer case, and rear diff would be failing like everyone else, but nope, still going strong. I replaced my clutch in preparation for a FP red, but held off on the turbo and just decided to wait a year and build the block with a bigger turbo later. Stock clutch held up pretty damn fine, I really can't believe people go through them that quick. It wasn't even slipping when I replaced it, I couldn't make it slip for the life of me. Like I said, only reason I replaced it was for preparation for a bigger turbo where I figured it would be bound to die. Timing chain condition is unknown, but I'd imagine it is somewhat stretched. I'll know when AMS tears down my block in a few weeks to build it. The engine was a little loud, so I would not be surprised. I've always been pretty anal on oil changes, doing them way before scheduled maintenance. Maybe that helped. Either that or my Evo is just lucky haha. |
47K - No major problems

Typical minor/routine maintenance: * replaced brake pads * replaced tires * battery The only unexpected repair was a Recaro back-swap after the 1st year. My seats squeaked like an old rocking chair constantly. And the dealership swapped it under warranty. Since the swap, the seats have been great. Still on the original clutch which shows no sign of giving out... |
I have a 2008 X with 42k and i have had problems with mine but nothing to major and yes i did have the timing chain problem back 2 years ago at around 24k miles
The car is well maintained |
I got mine ib 2008 early spring. From 2008 early summer the car mostly used for racing only.
2010 we blew the engine, i am preatty sure because many failed attempet to tune a rally engine previously. I have a new engine 2011 build and tuned by an EU rally tuner. Engine is amazing. We still on the original timing chane after inspection it was still perfect even though it came out of the blown engine .... The car is a rally car since 2009. Stock drive train, stock transmission. 450 ft/lb on wheel, 29 psi. Not a sign for any fatige. I still even have a stock brembos with the original rotors, etc. Car has 14+k miles. |

I've had no problems thus far, but I have changed brake pads and the battery. I also change the oil and crank fluid before the recommended time and I also keep up with all the services through :mitsu:

41k on mine, replaced brakes, rear diff (still dont know why, maybe bearing out) CMC (on ACT 6puck). other than that no issues.

Alot changed even from MY08 to MY10 so asking questions like this don't really help, plus people have done different builds too which affect reliability.

Mine is one of the first '08s.. Nov '07 to be exact. So with all the stories about the '08s problems and the early production date issues and stuff, I was a little worried about this the future problems and thought about trading it in for a newer model..
But 37k miles and over 3 years of ownership later, I haven't had any of the horror stories happen to me. :D My clutch is fine- no slippage My timing chain hasn't ever been inspected, but I don't throw any codes and it drives perfect My diff pins are fine, again haven't been expected and I'll probably replace them when I end up doing the clutch My whole drivetrain operates flawlessly. :) Tires were replaced around 10k Brake pads were swapped around 10k because of noise and dust. I do have one problem with the RF stereo.. The AM receiver inside the head unit went out around 10k miles, but there wasn't a dealer around me so I never got it replaced. Everything works fine, I just can't pick up AM stations, which isn't a big deal to me. My car is DD'd everyday since day 1, has some bolt-ons and the OTS Cobb AP stage 2 tune. I change the oil about every 2500 miles, I went all the way to 3k like twice, and do all other maintenance a little ahead of schedule. I did the first oil change at 1000 and then every 2.5k |
23k miles on mine. No timing chain issues (fingers crossed). Motor is soon to go in for a re-build.
|
50K on mine I beat the bag out of it and so does my fiancee, no issues yetout side of the things that will wear out anyways regardless of how you drive.
|
I have an OG 08 but there isnt anything left stock on it so I dont have any issues regardless...
|
08 with 49k on it and no problems. Still have OEM battery which is crazy in the heat we have here.
