Just found out that my MR was joyridden before delivery
i would have to say take the car and not worry about an extra 8 miles. it's not like your buying a carerra GT or a ferrari enzo. there are plenty of these cars around and if your that **** about 8 miles then go get a different one. if i were the dealer i would give a minimal discount (<500) on that specific car and offer the factory warranty if anything goes wrong early (which you get anyway). i'm sure they will be able to sell the car even if you don't want it.
it is a friggin car for christs sake. it is ment to be driven. if you make this thing a garage queen i will have to go over to your place and take it from you, as the acting MR police.

x 10^567Sounds to me like its going to be in the back of your mind bugging you for how ever long you keep the car. You can try to find an MR that just hit the ground somewhere else, but the reality of it is all of them are going to end up being driven by someone else before you get to it. You're not going to get $4000 off or anywhere close.

lol at a lot of you guys. If you read some of Spoot's posts, he's had his deposit down on this car since they even hinted at selling them, and his dealer just does not get Evo's of any type. It's not primarily the fact that an extra 8 miles was on there, not even really the dealerships problem, except they trusted the detail shop to take care of the car and they let some ****er who said he was the owner take it on a joy ride. And there is honestly no way to know what they did on that ride, clutch dumps, jumping it? who knows? I say get a serious discount or tell the dealer that you are going to get an S4, somewhere else because of the irresponsibility of their sub-contractor (detail shop).
So now the car _might_ be properly broken in.
What's the big deal. Buschur does it to all his cars. Others do it too.
For your piece of mind, ask the dealership to change the oil and filter.
If it were me, I wouldn't care one bit. But since the dealer knows that you're upset, might as well try and negotiate a couple of bucks off.

Although it sucks that someone unauthorized drove your potential new car, its really not that big of a deal. Even if the car was redlined, you aren't doing any harm to the engine. The only real concern would be maybe if the clutch didn't fully bead in, but I'msure once you give it a couple miles the clutch will be ok.
On the Honda race motors I build, we break them in on the dyno. The last tune I did make 511 whp @ 24 psi and ran 10.7 @ 137 mph. On my race engine, after letting the engine warm up, I started reving it thru the power band immediately. On compression tests all my cylinders are above 220 psi. This is phenomenonal on an engine w/ 9.5 to 1 compression.

this is where i learned this a couple years back. my friends who run sport bikes do the same thing. i guess its really up to you to decide though, as everyone's paid a lot of money for their cars. but, in my experience from racing... no one that i know who's babied their engine during the break in has a particularily strong engine or an engine that lasted particularily long.

General manager just called. They retrieved the car with one of their flatbeds and put it in their garage, still on the truck. They won't take it off until I and their service manager get there.
He's still throwing something together, but he's found a gray MR in VA with 7 miles on it that he can get if I want it. Or, he'll extend the powertrain warranty, give me the current MR for around invoice, and possibly some other things. Regardless of what I choose, the paint repair that needs to be done to my lease turn-in is "taken care of" and I'm "not to worry about it".
I'm going in tomorrow about an hour before they open and we're going to discuss it all then.

Are you really that naive?
It doesn't take me a block to redline my car. And do you honestly think the person that went for a joyride didn't redline it? It is about 99.999999% guaranteed they redlined it in every gear, even if it was around the block.
Remember these words from the dealer when you have your first problem.
Due to the abuse that was put on the car by the owner of the vehicle, Mitsubishi must void all responsibility and warranty to this vehicle.
If you think I'm lying? SEARCH. You will find the horror stories involving warranty issues.
