He's still throwing something together, but he's found a gray MR in VA with 7 miles on it that he can get if I want it. Or, he'll extend the powertrain warranty, give me the current MR for around invoice, and possibly some other things. Regardless of what I choose, the paint repair that needs to be done to my lease turn-in is "taken care of" and I'm "not to worry about it".

I'm going in tomorrow about an hour before they open and we're going to discuss it all then.
I gotta tell you, that is one fine dealer you have there! Wish I knew about a dealer like that. Take the car and count your blessings.

And there is honestly no way to know what they did on that ride, clutch dumps, jumping it? who knows? I say get a serious discount or tell the dealer that you are going to get an S4, somewhere else because of the irresponsibility of their sub-contractor (detail shop).

if you can get your lease return "taken care of" with nothing out of your pocket and an MR at invoice, you should thank god the same night for rewarding you. you must've done quite a few things correctly in the recent past =)

I say getting the lease taken care of, the MR for invoice, and making sure that clutch is fine and having the abuse in writing would right this.

But the question is , does this buy you a piece of mind for the duration you are going to own the vehicle?

Honestly, this story sounded pretty strange. Why would your dealer even considers making thousands less on the only MR he has. He can actually return your deposit and sell it to someone else for at least MSRP. 20 miles on the odometer is more than normal on new car. Unless the dealer knew the car was actually badly abused while it was joyridden at the detailer's place.

My point is the dealer sounded too honest and nice to be possible. so something fishy.

ohh.....i am so sorry to hear about that mr. spizzy.

if i was in the same boat i would have flipped out and found out who the **** took it out for a ride. if i dropped 5 grand for a deposit on possibly one of the best cars on the market now, and found out some little pansy took it out for a 8 mile joyride before i got my hands on it. i think i would feel like a rape victim and justice has to be served.

get everything you can off the dealer, their "trusted" business partner screwed the dealer, and the screwed you.

if you decide to keep the car....

1. get it at invoice
2. free extended warrenty
3. tell them to clear bra the entire car
4. get everything you can out of them

its not like you walked on the lot yesterday and said i want one, you've had this baby on reserve for what, almost 6 months now.

That sounds like an awesome deal to me, especially since the dealer is losing out on this and not

UPDATE: and a GOOD outcome

----- -----

Apparently when the master technician started it up and rolled it around the back lot, something didn't feel right. They rolled it to a lift in the service bay almost immediately. We would later be informed that two of the cluster gears in the transfer-case have several teeth stripped clean off (3 on one, 5 on the other [4 complete, 1 partial]). There were also a few other things they wanted to look at immediately. I guess the detailer (or the detailer's insurance) ends up footing the bill, so they'll replace anything questionable.

Basically I was given two options, and no matter what option I took, the keyjob on my Eclipse that I'd have to have repaired on turn in (since it's end of lease), is completely waived -- even if I turned both options down and bought a different car elsewhere.
  1. New car. He found one in Virginia with about 7 miles on the odometer he could have here for Thursday the earliest.
  2. Existing car repaired, bunch of other regular non-scheduled maintenance on them (oil changes, diff flushes, etc.), and he'd hack $1500 off the price.

Additionally, he would still honor the existing discounts we had already agreed on (which was $501.50) with either option. I ended up going with the new car, simply because last thing I need is something else to give me problems and leave me without a car for a few days (or dealing with a loaner). The MR is my daily driver so I need it every day.

The owner of the detailing shop had already dropped off a written apology, as well as three $100 gift certificates for service that have no expiration date. Apparently the employee has been reprimanded.

The only other thing is the GM has to meet with one of the regional directors Monday regarding the incident to ensure it's properly reported and handled to ensure there's no issues that will crop up in the future in the event the car has problems.

----- -----

So I guess it worked out, and it's why I went back to the dealership for a 2nd car in the first place. I get treated much better there than I do at Infiniti or Audi dealerships. The damage isn't what pissed me off, but rather the fact that someone felt they could just take off with my car (I've had money on it since June) and do what they pleased. The GM had the same view -- he trusts them to take care of all his cars that go on his showroom floor, not just my MR.

Sounds like a great dealer. I think you made the right decision. With that kind of damage I would always be worried something else was wrong with the car. I think the employee at the detail shop should've been fired though. It's hard telling how many cars he's done that to.

great choice and sorry to hear such horrible things come from a special car. I too had some weird problems. I own a 1998 eclipse gsx and the tech smoked my clutch by revving my engine. Let's just say I was furious. The dealership gave me a free synthetic oil change. Thats it. The car stuck like clutch for about 2 weeks. Good luck with your new Evo MR. I hope envy and stupidity don't ruin your car.

Reprimanded?!? WTF? Obviously the "employee" in question is a family member. Otherwise, if it were my business at least, his *** would have been down at the unemployment office.

I'm glad it all worked out for you in the end. It sounds like you got a hell of a deal. I also hope the dealer fully discloses the damage that occured to the unit originally intended for you to the next guy or gal that comes along to buy it. I bet it will get pimped out to some low volume dealer that gets a poor allotment of Evos and no one will be the wiser.
