Damned insurance lobby ...
They won't stop. Because American Consumers are getting lazier & lazier. When you can't get your fatass out of the car to manually check your tire pressure with a guage because your too lazy, you should'nt be driving...plain and simple. It's a really stupid law that is not needed.
Im suprised they haven't made a law yet where your vehicle can't start unless you are buckled in.

No it is not federally required that all vehicles marketed as 07 models have a tire pressure monitoring system.

Yeah blame it on GM. They have tpm in most of thier new cars. You have to think tho. There are alot of drivers who are thinking lastly about the car thier in. Not like us who are car buffs who spend our downtime thinking about the car.

Maybe not, but Japan and Europe does. Mitsu doesn't have the money to develop a car that will work for our market but not there's or vice vera. They are developing one car that can be sold in all of those markets because it is more effecient. So that means 2007 has to be skipped for retrofitting of the plant.

Did anyone else notice they just made the EVO IX MR option available on the Wagon? Hotness! Too bad Japan only tho.

I was just about to make a post that had something to do with this. I called four Mitsu dealerships yesterday and they all said they were getting 2007 Evos.. I doubt they all lied to me since 2 of the 4 guys I talked to were managers. What was strange about it though was every location told me radically different times for when they would have the 07s in stock. I got these answers: Middle of September, around December, Feb-April of 07, fall of 07. Wtf? I did find out there is a special rebate if you buy a new 05 Evo 8, it's like $1500 off but I would be surprised if anyone has one left.

I heard they wont have '07's labeled as 07's because apparently they changed regulations so taht in order to be a 2007 model you have to have side impact air bags.. and we all know evo's dont have those.. I could be wrong but that's just what I heard. 2006 will be the last production year in the united states for the 4g63

any 07 plate Evo's will just be Evo IX's like their equivalent 06 IX.
There wont be any official new model until Evo X and therefore i wouldnt even bother worrying about it. Any changes will be minor details and any actual issues will be resolved via accompanying TSB or recall, in theory, but either way the 13, 14 and 15 revisions of the IX ECU prove at least 3 times already the IX has had it's ECU revised. This will likely continue until the Evo X is released. In many little areas, to help improve reliability and reduce maintenance via warranty cost for Mitsu. But it will not be any better.

You could always prove me wrong....also being sold in 2007 doesnt make it an 07 model. Mitsu could just load their dealerships up with 2006 evo's plated 06 and selling them all through 07, if need be.
If its actually plated 07 there might be revised rules to ensure the car complies with, but mitsu would be shooting themselves in the foot if these rules cost them much to adhere to. hence changes will be minor, or not at all.

There has been a lot of misinformation posted recently about new US regulations for new cars. I thought I had cleared some of them up already - even in this thread. But I guess not.

To summarize:
1) US auto regulations do not generally go by model year. They normally go into effect based on production date, as opposed to the production year, which is generally nominal.
2) US auto trade rules are very lax when it comes to the nominal model year a manufacturer assigns to a car. i.e. Many "2007" model cars have been on sale in the US since spring of 2006. It's perfectly normal and common for automakers to sell cars that were built in 2006 as "2007" model year cars.
3) The ONLY NHTSA rule that covers all US passenger cars for cars that would be "2007" model cars is the SMART airbags rule, which requires that then passenger seat frontal airbag be able to disable itslef if a passenger under a certain weight (i.e. a child) is sitting in that passenger front seat. This rule affects cars BUILT AFTER Aug 31, 2006

Take 1, 2, and 3 together, and its possible for Mitsubishi to sell "2007" Evos in the US by either:
a) selling pre-aug 31st build cars as "2007" models
b) Adding the seat sensor and SRS software to comply with the SMART rules
or
c) requesting an exception from NHTSA from the SMART rules for the (relatively low-production) Evo for 2007 models.
