Evo MR write up in Road & Track
No note was made of what happened. Most likely the owner switched the wheels...... prior to putting it up for auction.
There is very little info posted on the cars in the auction..... you have to contact them.... and answer a boatload of Qs / account verification prior to getting any info.
I will see if the car is still there and post what info I can... IT was the only MR, so i expect that to be gone by Monday (system is down for the weekend).

Yeah...Mitsu tested the waters, and it was icy cold.
If you have read any of the comments from
corp. they have all said how pleased they have been with how well the EVO has done in our "fickle" market..Seriously, the Evo has been one of the glowing items that has helped Mitsu mantain their momentum while releasing the new product!!.(endevor, etc)
owes a lot to the EVO and so do we!
The Evo has done very well fro Mitsu. That's why they announced the RS and will probably soon announce the MR. As for their image and percieved quality and resale value, they have a lot of work cut out for them. beinhg associated with daimler chrysler is a big help. I would suspect they would start playing on the fact they are related to Mercedes to get the perception in people's peas (err organs between their ears) that they are high value/prestige item like in other parts of the world.. But that would take edjumaction of the 'merican folks which I don't think anyone has a chance at fixing that gross inadaquency. As for the Evo's sitting around or folks getting in over their heads, that happens often on initial model roll out. It's Lemmingitis. Others who don't waste finances on the first 90 days of hype or chance 1st year maladies for a model and 1st year limited options are waiting checkbooks in hand watching, observing and ready to pick up an affordable and practical super car for under $40k. As for the demise of the japanese sports cars in the late 90s. They become too techno bloated (ready heavy and fat), overpriced and mostly *unpractical*. Trust me I fooled myself beliving my MR2Turbo was practical.. How foolish was I.. Either way it worked for the time of my life, and now I can still enjoy it, and I can add another sporty car, that has twice the truink room and over twice the passanger carrying capacity.
The jap sports cars also had a bad yen to dollar ratio that beyond their control made it incredibly burdonsome to try and sell anything over a mid priced car here. NSXs going from 50k to 90k?? Ouch.
Relating those sportyy two seaters with all their little quirks to the current sporty and practical Evo is way off the mark. I think Mitsu learned a lot from the 3000GT Spyder.. Trying to make a techno lard cruiser with power is not somethign people want. They either want a laid back convertible cruiser that they could care less if it is 110hp or 350hp ( Mustang convertible..) or they want all out performance without any of the other junk.. Z28s - Bargains for great track cars and quarter mile. Mitsu has done the right thing. They see that most WRX owners were performance oriented, and moded thier cars at the degradation of comfort. Mitsu has brought a car that stock which most still are, is screaming performance beast and a bargain to boot. And hey lets throw in practical as well. as long as your non fare paying passangers don't complain to much or moan about not having heavy, burn your legs in the Texas sun, leather to rest their over stretched McDonalds fat asses on. But that's why its a limited production car specifically for a niche group. They know that, Some owners know that, those that didn't were rudely introduced to a *performance* machine after ignoring all previous attepts at trying to explain to them that this is not a car with 30k worth of crap to seperate you from the road, but 30k worth of stuff to keep you as in touch with the road as much as possible. Those who didn't pay attention are moaning and will be passing their Evos along. Those in over their heads either financially or skill wise are either selling them or wrecking them.. Either way Mitsu is doing well and many appropriate evo owners are ecstatic and some minor lemmings are realizing they aren't in what they belong in.. As for the MR, being marginally different from the current Evo in regards to US federalization, it would just be corporate suicide NOT to offer it as an option.. It rounds out the Evo lineup quite well from RS to GSR to MR with a nice $25k, $29k ?$33k range.
For those who want a pure weekend track to the RS is perfect, for those who also want to be able to run around town on the weekends to stop by the park the MR is perfect, and for those who want a daily driver that excites on the backroads, the GSR like the step down from the Integra TypeR, works very well...
For the nay sayers.. All I can do is laugh.. If you're fortunate you too will grow up.

Actually, I'm not so sure the MR would be for "running around the town on weekends to stop by the park."
The MR is more performance oriented than our "GSR," I'm not really sure that would be the right description for it.
Well, if it's coming out, we'll find out soon enough.

nice post Mister2zx3, I agree with everything you said. You made some good points also about how the MR would round out the lineup which is very true. I also agree with you about a few people here and there that really just got themselves into a car that doesn't fit them and now they constantly complain and whine about EVERYTHING.
The reason behind my interest in the MR is the fact that I do track the car twice a month, but it remains for the most part my driver. The RS is just a little too bare for me. Eventually, the car will be towed to the track, but until then I'd like at least a little comfort hehehe. I really wanted a yellow one when I bought it, and now I'm regretting that decision, and the only yellow one in CA at the time had a sunroof, so there's another reason to switch.
An MR with power accessoris W/M/L/S etc is something you can take to the track and to the park/sonic with friends for a little snack/picnic.. and the RS is probably a little to spartan to coerce another couple to endure the trip...

I wonder how many corvette enthusiasts or recent Z06 owners are nay saying that there is a blue devil/bird model being worked on that is supposed to be the next "z06" replacement for the C6 vette? Chevy has not "officially announced" the z06 variant for the C6 vette yet, so there must be no way they will be doing such a performance oriented model..

I can see a MR coming here, but I'm skeptical of it being "full-blown." I see a "USDM" MR coming though.
