it's switched ground, which means you hook the positive side to a switched or unswitched 12v source, and the other leg to the utec. I'm going to make one on a breadboard and put it in my ac vent like that other guy did in the howto section. I'll prolly do it tommorow.

Yes.. you supply the 12v+ source, then the pinouts are switched ground.. I'm using them as a shiftlight now.. the original shiftlight I made was basically a pencil light from autometer, supplied a switched 12v+ power source from the fusebox, and for a ground, I used the "Middle" shiftlight pin (the one that is at 5500 or something like that)

I have since made up a new shiftlight using a jumbotron "pixel" basically its three color, with 4 wires, it has a single 12v power source, and then each color (red green blue) comes on.. The only problem I had with that source is I had to find the right resistors so all three lights were the same intensity... So I may move onto something else.. but its definitely a cool tool to have.

Only one issue I had, if you use a switched source that is on when the accessories are on like the radio or something, the UTEC seems to close these ground circuits when the car isn't running and the light stays on.. so try to find a switched source that is only on when the car is in run mode and not acc/run.

 

thats what i thought but now im working on board with three outputs---to bring 12v down to a managable voltage for three super bright led's or ill probably just find a voltage regulator and use that for power mount it on a board with the led's and hook up the grounds to it...
