make sure your air/fuel ratios are reasonable as you increase your boost. you do have a wideband right?

no wide band
but i do have an SAFC-II
bad news with the car though, either the whole tranny, the TC, or one of the diffs are going out. getting a real bad whine in all gears under accel and decel, and even in nuetral all the way to stop. man this sucks!

hey about setting up the boost controller, my last car had a greddy profec b spec2
setting it pu can be confusing at first but if u read the manual it will tell u pretty clearly what each setting does, and theres a chart if i remember for troubleshooting.
It'll say if u r spiking do this blah blah blah and so on.
anyway simplest way to start setting it up is mess with the gain.
your want the gain as high as possible(in most cases) right below the amout that makes u spike. This makes for fastest boost up, but wont spike(this is a good reaosn to setup your limiter first).
now oyur max psi is done bye %, but if you dont like math a simple pos calculator will help you. Simply put(if i remember) 0% is gunna be your stock boost setting. So if u want to add 5psi, find out what % 5 is of your maxe psi. that is
5 divided by stock boost(17?) i could help your more but i dont get my Evo MR until Monday so i dont even knwo what boost it runs.
a good thing to kepe in mind though(if u have the functions i had) is setup a 2nd setting on your controller. u get a A setting a B setting and an off setting, off = stock, and the two others u determine. Depending on where you live will depend on your settings but what you want to keep in mind is either how much the temperature changes from day to night, day to day or from season to season. For example i used to live in pennsylvania, during the day in sping it would be upper 80's, yet at nighttime it could drop to low 60's easy, this will affect your controller VERY much. So set it up for two different conditions.
I chose to make a setting for daily driving(low boost) and a setting for raceing people. 1 push of a button while at a stop light and u r ready to race someone
hope this helps

You just blew your transfer case. Hence the whine. Seems like you have been doing some really ugly launches and beatin the hell out of your car. Mitsu probably wont warranty it and will charge u a lot for a new one. I recommend you get it out of your car and ship it to Jon at TRE (www.teamrip.com). he will fix it for you for about $1000. Good luck
