I have some questions about replacing the stock blow off valve. I've been searching all day and can't find too many answers. I keep reading how the stock BOV is junk, but thats it. I want to be able to hear the BOV when I switch gears. If I upgrade the BOV will I run into any problems, or error codes? Anything I would have to change/tune? What's a good BOV to get with everything else still stock, and maybe a couple bolt ons in the future. Thanks for the help. Sorry to hijack this thread but I didn't want to create another one.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
1 - BOV allow you to run more consitant boost. Aftermarket are made of better materials. And some have tuning capabilites - springs and screws - to further dial in better to your cars needs.

2 - There are many good ones out there - search more. For sounds go to: http://www.blowoffvalves.com/

3 - All the shops are close to pricing - but from my experiences I like LancerShop.com

In order to hear the BOV you will need an open element filter or cone filter. And most importantly run RECIRCULATED, venting to the atmosphere will decrease performance. No you do not need to retune your computer with a BOV.

The Tomei BOV and JDM MR BOV (almost same part) are very good replacement ideas. I have the Greddy Type S and it has a more unique sound and works well. However this winter I will be going to the Tomei version (the Type S whistles at 10 vac - so on the freeway it can get annoying). The Forge verisons are also very good. Again depends what you are looking for in sound and that will lead you to what you will get.

Where did you hear the stock BOV is junk??

I have no problems with mine, and I'm sure its not leaking.

Boosting at 20PSI, I upgraded my intake to the HKS RS and it sounds pretty loud, I mean for stock ofcourse.

I will upgrade my BOV but when the time is right.

I just ordered the JDM MR BOV from NoLimitMotors for $110. I went this route cause of price and function. As stated before the JDM MR is made of metal and will hold more boost, up to 25psi.

If you notice from the frist reply link: http://www.blowoffvalves.com/

Why replace it?
The original valve is of a plastic design, with a soft spring to help push down the sealing valve. The OEM valve is not able to hold the higher boost levels of the Evolution. Replacing the BOV with one that does not leak has been dyno proven to add power.

I don't remember the exact link, but when searching for BOV info, I came across how the stock BOV is cheap plastic and doesnt hold boost and creates lag. I read this serval times. I guess you can't always believe what you read on the internet. Anyways, I'm just gunna leave mine that way it is for now. I want to research as much info as I can before doing anything. Thanks.
