Utec newbie questions.

I want to be able to tune my own car.

What all am I going to need?

I understand that UTEC will accept a wideband, do I need a tuner pro in order to get that?

This has probably been covered, but I need such a vast amount of information to read maybe someone can steer me in the right direction?

Well, you don't "need" the Tuner pro, but it makes things a little easier. i use the AEM Uego with mine, but you have to use different software when not using the TXS tuner.

You do not need the tuner pro. The Tuner lite will work as well. I would not recommend any other wideband other than the Tuner Lite or Pro . Both of these devices interface perfctly with the UTEC and the data is seemlesly imported into the UTEC log. I would suggest downloading the UTEC manual from Turbo XS and reading it cover to cover. It is very comprehensive. Once you get the UTEC up and running there is always support available on this forum. You can also hit me up via PM any time. If I can't answer your questions there is always MalibuJack!

I take it I need the tuner-pro in order to log MAP/Knock/A/F with the UTEC?

The tuner pro only logs AF ratio and knock

Tuner lite only AF ratio(stock knock sensor will still hear knock and tell you but you will not be able to hear it through the headphones like tuner pro)

To log MAP you will either need to buy a GM sensor or the TurboXS DTEC sensor with a little adapter(provided). I would recommend buying the sensor from TurboXS because it come with the harness and also includes calibration setting so you don't have to calibrate it.

Call up a shop that deals with these and talk to them about it.

I would recommend www.rallysportdirect.com

Well, if I understand correctly, I only really need A/F and knock in order to tune this thing myself.

All of those other items are nice, especially MAP, but I don't really NEED them so to speak.

I really don't want the dtec, I just want to be able to plug my laptop in, do a pull, analize it, adjust, repeat.

Does the wideband they sell on their site plug right into the utec?

Yes the TurboXS Tuners plug right into the UTEC. It goes UTEC=====>Tuner=====>Laptop

But the sensor itself doesn't plug into the UTEC it plugs into the Tuner.

So the Tuner plus info form the UTEC then add the AF ratio on then sends it to your computer.

So in order to tune the Utec I need the tuner, when it's all said and done I'm damn near better off with AEM, considering the cost don't you think?

you don't NEED the tuner but if you want to tune your car effectively and safely i would recommenf it.

We the AEM you will need a wideband to tune it as well. THe UEGO works well with the AEM.
the UEGO is about the same price above the AEM as the tuner is above the UTEC.

I would call a shop and talk to them tomorrow it may be quicker to answer your questions.

It will work but they will not log on the same screen. You will have to match your log on the utec with your log on the wideband.

Also you will need to hook both of them to your laptop.
