I think the benefit right now would be the downloadable maps. We aren't yet sharing maps like that with EcuFlash due to firmware and immobilizer issues. There's also not a single place to download maps. It would be hard to maintain that as a community without issues, but it's easier for a company like Cobb to maintain a controlled set of maps for customers.
and with that logging software you can then see how your car reacts with a dynoflash tune by logging. If you know anything about tuning you can build off of that map and create a more custom tune for you car and your area that his base flash wont offer. So its def. worth the money because no 2 cars will react the same to a tune and it gives you that flexibility to make your car even better....... and keep from paying the high prices.
But that is only if you have a decent idea of what your doing

YOu made your point, Travman. I'm not trying to get people to pay extra for Al's handling and shipping add-on or whatever. Just saying it is available through Al when getting a Dynoflash. For a while, the cables were on back order, so Al was the only one with cables. He didn't randomly raise the prices to gouge people during that time. He paid full price and isn't making profit on them. It's really no big deal...

Back on the topic... The EcuFlash software and a mail in flash from Dynoflash really is just about the same as the Cobb AP except, as Warr pointed out, you don't have a series of maps to download. IMO the EcuFlash is more promising since it allows the user, or a knowledgable tuner in my case, to fine tune the mail in map. The only way to do this with AP is to either get the Streettuner software which does not allow for as many parameters of adjustment and control as the EcuFlash or to pay for a $300 Protune.
The problem I see with the Protune is that even after you pay $300 for a custom tune you have no ability to modify any part of the map. That means with my STi if I change the turbo or anything else after the tune I will have to pay another $300 for a Protune. With the EcuFlash you can add a new part everyday and make the necessary changes for free.

In the subaru street tuner they give you every map you will need to tune your car. The only maps protuner maps get are maps that you shouldn't ever need.

I think that ECUflash is rough because it is tough to tell what load site you are in (there is a equation for it but that takes time and there is margin for human error)
The street tuner has a visual graph so you can look at the map see where your peak torque should be on the graph and see if there is a part that is not smooth VISUALLY. I am a visual type of guy though.
And I really hope the mistu ECU is up to the live tuning task. It would make it so easy to tune for your intake(if you have one) and you could finally get your fuel map to say at least close to the AFR that is at the tailpipe.
