After market ECU

Hey guys i'm quite new to the Evo world, and although im quite knowledgeable, I still have alot to learn. so I was wondering if anyone could guide me in the right direction of the right ECU. What I should look for in an ECU?? I've been looking at different brands and models like autotronic and motec, but for now the numbers aren't adding up. I dont have an Evo yet but i would like to know everything i need to know, and everything i want to buy before i purchase one. ok well any info you guys give me will be great. .thanks.

You can do lots with the stock ECU. If you aren't planning a big turbo install or speed density conversion any time soon, you might not need an aftermarket ECU.

like these guys said, you can go far tuning the stock ecu...most people don't need a standalone.

You wont need an aftermarket engine management system until after you exceed around 500whp. I could be wrong about this but even then it's not that the ECU isnt capable of doing more power it becomes a limitation of the MAF sensor.

ok guys gotcha. The way i figured it was that changing the airflow through the engine would couple with ECU adjustement. Even if it is not necessary it should help in some way right?? i want to eventually Break into the upper 3's maybe lower 4's cause it will be my daily driver/ track car. So i will be doing most of the basic mods. Exhaust, cams, boost control, intake etc. etc...

we're not saying you don't need to get tuned, we're saying you don't need an aftermarket ECU to do it.. you can use the stock ECU to tune the car... check out www.mellontuning.com for more info and let me know if you have any questions.
