Fuel Capacity - Racing Cell?

This is *NOT* a post *****ing about mileage - if I wanted mileage, I would have gotten a Prius or other similar hybrid.

This is a ***** about the fact that when I fill up on gas, the anti-overflow mechanism on practically every pump I've ever been to stops the fill so far in advance that the needle on the fuel gauge doesn't even read FULL.

As a matter of fact, I have routinely put in TWO GALLONS of fuel in (painstakingly resetting the damn pump every 0.05 gallon) after the initial "stop." This process take approximately 20 minutes to dispense about 11 gallons of premium. Even then, the needle is just barely touching FULL and I'm sure I could get another half a gallon in there.

Who else has this problem and what have you done to solve it?

If I have to spend 20 minutes filling up, should I just get a racing fuel cell? Has anyone else done this? What are the options available?

I also have a '06 MR and haven't had a problem. When the gas light comes on, I can put 12 gallons or so in the vehicle and run ~220 miles before I put in another 12. Sounds like something is wrong...
