04 ECU into an 03 evo
04 ECU into an 03 evo
i recently did an engine swap and used an 04 stock ECU from my old car which was totalled.
The car it went into is an 03 evo now with an 03 engine.
The engine is turning but won't go to start. I had the key synced to the ECU by a locksmith and the little green sign is no longer there but the car still won't start up.
Checked every possible thing. Reset the OBD, checked fuel pump, starter, injectors, spark plugs, alarm system taken out, still won't start... just turning over and over.
Is there some kind of fuel cut off switch i don't know about?
I know my old ford taurus had one in the trunk fender.
Any ideas would be helpful.

Sounds like its either the bad immobilizer code, or you have to flash the 04 ECU with an 03 Rom image..
There are some locksmiths that have special MUT tools to allow the immobilizer to be synced, but I'm not 100% sure how reliable their tool is..
BUT if the car is an 03, you should reflash the ECU with the 03 rom just to be safe, make sure you have the right immobilizer code for the car.

You may have to disable the immoblizer in the rom, something I don't recommend, but you probably need to get the car to a dealer to have the immobilizer and ECU properly programmed if you dont know how to do this yourself.
another question... would the car even turn if the immobilizer was preventing the engine? or would it still churn but just not start? cuz even when i didn't have the key matched it still churned but never got to start up.
the guy says the fuel pump is pumping fuel but the injectors aren't shooting any fuel into the chamber.... which doesn't make sense to me cuz i didn't know injectors had to be triggered by the ecu.

nope... mitsu dealers will only flash to model number.
ECu was from an 04 so it still flashed to 04 specs.
Car won't start but spittin smoke out the back.
I'm thinking i need a 03 ecu. Supposedly the model numbers are different even if the car is exactly the same
1/03 - 12/03 is one model 1/04 - 12/04 is another model....
dealer tech thinks maybe my timing is off or something else so he's gonna take a look at it tomorrow.
at least i learned a tidbit about the ecu models
