New Car Help
New Car Help
As I posted several times on various topics, I just got a '06 MR
with some mods, but know little about the mods.
From these photos, can someone tell me if the setup is correct, and if its looks decent in general.
Sorry for being so vague but maybe some of you can tell just from these pics.
What I do know however, just from looking at the brand name labels on these parts is that, I have a Titanium Exhaust, Invidia Downpipe & Testpipe, HKS Blow off Valve, AMS Green cone filter and intake pipe, and a Manual Boost Controller.
Is the boost controller setup correct ? it is linked via a small pipe to the intake manifold, and to the BOV, and also there is a third small pipe going down to the turbo itself. The BOV is welded to the aluminum intake pipe. The boost controller is a valve with a twist knob, as you can see, and has white marking in paint, I guess whoever was installing it, drew these lines to align where the default setting is. However, the knob doesn't turn, only with large pliers. is that normal ??
The green cone filter has the MAF on it, but i can't tell if the BOV releases to atmosphere, or back into the air intake.
Sorry for the barrage of questions within this post, try to answer as many as you guys can.
THANKS!

well as long as one line from the boost controller goes to the turbo and the other to the intake manifold i think its installed correctly. Your bov should be replaced back to a stock evo ix BOV which is what you will hear from most evom members.
u r right, most people have said that. Im definitely going back to the stock airbox with snorkle and the stock BOV.
however, i will keep the custom turbo-back exhaust, as people say it really does give a significant power boost

Well i need to know what the current setting is. who knows what they did when they installed the controller. am i getting more or less boost than stock, or is it still set at default....
the factory boost gauge shoots right to the maximum (1.5bar), when i floor it, and the needle stays there till i let off the gas. so its impossible to tell what the maximum boost is.
so perhaps they tuned the car for more boost than stock, which could be dangerous.
or maybe i should get an aftermarket boost gauge for a more accurate reading

get an aftermarket boost gage. the boost controller does not have marked settings, it will only tell you + or -
then you will have to drive the car to see where it is.
1.5 bar is approx 22lbs of boost which is the stock boost on an MR
but if the stock boost gage only goes to 1.5 you might very well be going higher
you sound pretty unsure, and not trying to sound like a jerk or anything, but you may want to take it to a shop (if there is one somewhere near you) or have someone local you trust to look at it for you

i need one that knows EVOS

however, my boost controller actually does have markings on the knob, as you can see in the photo. whoever installed it, marked 2 white lines, in ink or paint. one on 1 side, one on another side, so that they line up when its in the default position.
Does it shoot past 1.5bar? The gauge will turn past 1.5.. so if it shoots to 1.5bar and holds to redline then you are running 1.5bar. Get a real boost gauge (map sensor based preferred).
it holds at 1.5. doesnt go beyond, or maybe it does but barely a tiny bit. usually though, it stays right at 1.5bar.
i just thought maybe the gauge is limited strictly to 1.5, so if the needle stays there, its an indication that in reality the boost is higher.
since you say the gauge can show past 1.5, i guess i am Ok.
regardless, i will try to get a better gauge installed

Yes, the stock gauge will easily pass 1.5 ... hell, mine jumped in to the vacuum area last night ... lol.
A stock IX will not hold 1.5 on the gauge ... moer like 1.25 or so at WOT. It will generally spike to 1.4 or 1.5 depending on the gear.
