water temp reading incorrect

hey guys, i'm new to the site, Evos, and turbos so sorry about any nub comments i make, but overall I know my way around an engine, no worries there.

anyway, we just got an 06 Evo9 and noticed (after we bought it) that the temp gauge was pegged at H but no service light or steam or anything. car runs fine, even under heavy loads at high rpms no heat problems.

yesterday a light came on with an error that read "Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input"

we confirmed that the actual sensor is working fine, used a replacement and it still read incorrect.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

That code is set from the 2 wire sensor on the thermostat housing. The gauge is using the single wire sensor. I have seen a few of the single wire sensors fail. Which sensor did you replace?

K. Now we've replaced both. With the car not running but the key on, the gauge reads just under the half way mark. Which is lower than where it used to read but it's still not down to C.

Check your grounds. From the battery to the chassis especially, run a 4 AWG ground wire and see if that helps.
