Question HELP!! Car floods when cranking!?!? :-(

We just put an evo8 engine back together with a rebuilt stroker bottom end and now the car floods when cranking and won't start. Initially we assembled it with the same setup as it had before the engine went, same injectors, fuel pump, fuel lines, power fc map, etc. Then we tried a few different scenarios troubleshooting, with no luck. The only way to get the car started is to crank it with the fuel pump off, or the fuel pressure regulator bypassed. We tried reducing the cranking fuel settings but with no luck. Also tried different injectors and different FC maps with no change. I'm beginning to think the power fc itself may be damaged or something. The weirdest part is that if we crank it with the fuel pump off, and turn the pump on once it starts, the car idles and runs fine. All sensors appear to be reading fine,,, I just can't think of anything else to check. Any suggestions or ideas will be welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Problem fixed!
Trouble shooting on Saturday, found that the car's water temp. sensor was reading -34 degrees! Apparently the temp. sensor wire got pinched or something and we found 5V at the sensor plug, where its supposed to read ground. Put a wire between the temp sensor and ecu pin and the car started right up!..

Thanks for your reply!
