How to spot stock cams.
How to spot stock cams.
Hi forum,
My Evo IX was purchased used and she idles higher than normal. My delving into the forum is making me wonder if the camshafts are stock or not. My question is, how do I id stock cams. And will this be something that I can do myself?

You can take a picture of the inside of the valve cover through the oil filler hole and post on here. But an easy way would be to look at the tune as well. Higher than stock idle doesn't really mean that you have cams, but if it has a higher idle and higher timing numbers during idle then chances are that your car has bigger cams.
When I bought mine car she was in a different state so I had the guy do a walk around video and send me a list of all the mods and he told me how he tuned it as well. When I got the car up here in AK I could hear lope from the cams and the idle was so low I could barely keep her running sitting at a light. Do you know whats all done to your car?
