Anyone here running 272's?

I was just wondering if you have moved your torque peak timing tables up. If so, where? Just curious. I can't seem to find any HKS 272 dyno graphs anywhere. That would tell me everything! Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't know.. I'm running noodles..

In all seriousness, I don't have any good charts to show you how much it shifts the powerband in RPM range, it really does depend alot on whether you use adjustable timing gears and offset the cam timing a little, or if you just use the stock cam gears (or adjustables at 0 offset)

Scan through the site a bit, I saw several dyno charts of cars running 272's

Right. I was hoping to get a dyno chart from the cams set at 0 so that would tell me where the peak torque would be. That way I can just shift the the timing chart in that direction.

the only info I have is that its peak is moved up about 800 rpm.. there's a good thread on adjustable timing gears, and some good settings that reduce overlap and move the powerband down a little.. results in better idle..

I personally chose the cams because of the slightly higher lift, but longer duration, with the head I'm building, and all of the tweaked turbo stuff I've been working on, I am trying to make my TD05HRA-16G6-10.5t turbo work a little easier (Its a fairly small turbo) at higher RPM.. a bit of a balancing act.

If I come across the thread I saw with the info your looking for, I'll post the link.

Oh! So you got the 10.5 compressor side? Have you noticed any spooling issues? That thing is probably going to be next on my list.

Since the impeller is titanium, it spools lower than stock. I've put one of these on another car besides my own, I've got alot of stuff going on at the same time with my car so the turbo isn't on it at the moment.

But on the 10.5 with standard Evo turbo, it spools only about 200rpm higher than stock, if that..

Its really sweet, you can pick an identical one up through Forced Performance (I assembled my own) since I had some porting done and am in the process of sending the 10.5 housing out to be Ceramic coated.. There's a whole thread in one of the other forums with our exploits of the new turbo and options such as BB conversion (not feasable for several reasons according to FP and another turbo guru)

The bigger turbo and these cams really gains quite a bit of torque, plus much better top end. (again, on another car that I worked on, and not my own.. My own car is having a head built up so everything is sitting in my dining room)

Actually, someone pointed this out to me recently, but the TME (Makinen) turbo is a little unique, the hot side housing is 10.5, and it is a titanium impeller, but the TME turbine wheel is slightly different than a 16G6 wheel..

Evolution 5
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-10.5T (GSR)
TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (RS)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5
Turbine = Inconel (steel alloy), Titanium alloy (RS)
Compressor = Aluminium, 68mm wide

Evolution 6
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-10.5T (GSR)
TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (RS/rs2)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5
Turbine = GSR - Inconel (steel alloy), Titanium alloy (RS/RS2)
Compressor = Aluminium, 68mm wide

as you can see, its most similar if not identical to the Evo5 and Evo6 RS2 turbo..

BTW, the stock Evo 8 turbo is almost $800 new.. I paid $400 for my 9.8 titanium turbo from a vendor in Taiwan, and then about $200 for the 10.5 housing.. Still $600 is not cheap, but $200 less than the factory turbo from mitsubishi.

I collected these parts when I thought my factory turbo was damaged when the car got rear-ended and the entire exhaust system was driven forward almost 12" and we thought the stock turbo took a hit and cracked.. So I had a Header, and O2 housing.. I finished the setup only because I realized that the entire combination would result in a decent gain in power, with better than stock drivability.
