Utec's 2 step take out cat?

I have a Utec, fuel pump, and a Profec B spec II on my 2003 Evo 8. I had it tuned to 23.5 lbs and use to be able to launch the car with the 2 step with 12-17 lbs of boost. Now I am lucky to boost at 10 lbs and will only launch at 6-7 lbs. Do you think the 2 step took out my cat? Any other solutions you think I should look at? I only had the 2 step on for a couple of weeks until it got this bad.

2step will definately take out your cat. I can imagine either your cat is plugged up causing less exhaust flow or you have a boost leak. But i'm going to favor the cat being plugged up.

Sounds like you outright killed your cat haha.. time for you to go A/M exhaust

hehe or just get crazy and do a full exhaust this is a really great combo
Turbo XS RFL Catback Evo 8
Evo 8 Downpipe
CT9A Cat Delete Pipe

with this combo i noticed my evo 8 had made more horse and faster spool on the turbo than a evo MR of the same year with a greddy :) might want to look in to it and price was about for the install and all was like 800$ish

DEAR GOD $800!? simply buy a 3" downpipe, go to a muffler shop and have them build you a 3" pipe bent to fit like stock exhaust on hangers.. purchase 3" inlet 4" outlet muffler(Ebay-Megan-$65) and viola.. cheaper and same effect( get cat delete.. high flow are not worth the money unless you live in Cali)

What if I just go to a muffler shop (I have a buddy that owns one) and do a full turbo back exhaust? Will that give me the same result?

Widebandphillip Aug 4, 2005 01:31 PM

sure

I talked to a local shop here and they say since it takes a while to spool, that it sounds like I blew up my turbo. Maybe I will just buy a test pipe and see if that fixes anything.

HoLeeRay Aug 5, 2005 06:53 AM

dude.. if you had "blown up" your turbo, you'd know...

MalibuJack Aug 5, 2005 07:11 AM

you probably plugged up the catalytic converter.. backpressure will kill the turbo's responsiveness.... If the turbo was damaged it would likely be blowing smoke.. or you'd hear obscene noises if it even spooled..
