evo 8 & 9 AP Discontinued?

i went onto the cobb tuning website and it says the access port is discontinued for the evo 8 and 9, im currently looking to purchase the ap for my evo 9, and i dont know where to get it from anymore? perrin has them for the x but not 9, idk what to do? im really interested in the AP

COBB Tuning Dec 11, 2009 10:57 AM

Due to low sales volume and a complex OBD-II plug that is specific only to the EVO 8/9, we have indeed discontinued the AccessPORT for these cars. We will still support warranty issues and some software and map options, but going forward there will be no new developments or new AccessPORTs for these cars.

Are you going to now offer ECUFlash tuning on-site for the VIII/IX?

09Ralli Dec 11, 2009 11:25 AM

okay, is there any other way i can do it? like buy the evo x model and buy the obd II plug seperately?

Just use ECUFlash. If you don't know how to tune and don't have a good local tuner (you aren't that far from Minneapolis or Chicago, both have great tuners) contact Melon for a remote-tune.

09Ralli Dec 11, 2009 11:33 AM

okay thanks,
now lets say i bought the perrin tuned maps, can i put them on there with ecuflash?

Kracka Dec 11, 2009 12:27 PM

If you buy AP maps you'll need an AP unit, but, off-the-shelf tunes are stupid, getting a custom tune for your car and mods is definitely the way to go.

My advice: Drive 5 hours west and visit Shane at DB Performance in Rogers, MN. He is the best midwest tuner IMO. Easy day-trip and definitely worth it; you'll leave with a terrific tune on your car plus learn quite a bit in the process.

scheides Dec 11, 2009 12:34 PM

Perhaps Cobb will have off-the-shelf ecuFlash tunes to sell ya, then offer custom dyno tuning. Evoflash is an awesomely powerful tool, and best thing is its free :) That way you can pay cobb to actually tune your car, not for just the hardware and some generic base maps.

darthvader Dec 15, 2009 04:26 PM

you can probrably send them the ecu and they can flash it

silverguy Dec 16, 2009 04:33 PM

i got one im from my 9, evo is gone and its been laying around.... PMd

Kasaper Dec 16, 2009 04:41 PM

I notice your in Sacramento!! Close enough to me I'm in San Fran., let me know what you want for it and I'll come pick it up if its worth my while! Thanks!

949 Dec 19, 2009 08:50 AM

wow no longer ap for the 8 and 9. im surprised.

awdboosted Dec 19, 2009 10:10 AM

Im not. Look how far ECUFlash has come.. They have so many options with all the Tephra mods and Speed density!! It's hard to keep up with.. There is almost no need to go to a standalone like AEM EMS. The only benefits of EMS is The logging capabilities and on the fly adjustments.

evolvd276 Jan 15, 2010 08:43 PM

Ahh man this sucks

from_Si_2_Evo Jan 28, 2010 02:26 PM

raiceboi697 Feb 10, 2010 01:52 PM

from_Si_2_Evo Feb 11, 2010 09:08 AM

Idk. I have one now

LGshow19 Feb 11, 2010 09:59 PM

Well they discontinued selling the Hardware, but will they still support the AP. I was thinking of going with the AP and getting a tune at the Cobb facility in Plano. If they won't be ill go ECUflash and see if I can tune the 8 without blowing it up.

WhItEVIII Jul 9, 2010 02:07 PM

So let me make sure I got this right ECUflash is what one would call open source right?

you are lucky that this is not one of those "western" :usflag: dodge or mustangs forums
or you would be kicked and banned like a dog from here.
:shoot:
you are calling "stupid" the work of someone that you not even know, you should be more respectfull buddy.

I'm happy with my APII, running the stage II for more than a year now, no issues.

andysgarage May 8, 2011 05:27 AM

I've been running AP for three years, one year access tuner race, tuning possibilities seem endless.

I wouldn't waste my money on one. ECUflash is much much cheaper and has tons of support just on this forum

andysgarage Jul 26, 2011 11:57 AM

AP is worth it. The ability to scan and erase trouble codes is very important especially on a daily driver. As a troubleshooting aid it has always helped me. disabling the egr system is a click of the mouse. Not the same with ecu flash. And since both are hacks of the stock ecu the tuning is almost the same.I can also live tune with access tuner race and switch between two maps on the fly
.

evo8426 Jul 26, 2011 12:23 PM

Evoscan can read and erase trouble codes. I still don't understand why anyone would go outside of ecuflash for the Evo anyway. You can switch between 2 maps on stock ecu too, I have mine set up for a 93 map and an E85 map.

andysgarage Jul 28, 2011 10:23 AM

Without using a computer?

Yes map switching without a computer {thumbup}

andysgarage Aug 2, 2011 08:57 AM

I mean code scanning and ecu reset. I only need the laptop to alter the program and upload to the ap.

05blue8 Aug 2, 2011 09:10 AM

You can clear/read codes with a $40 obd2 code reader you can get off ebay if you don't want a laptop, or you can go on CL and get a $150 netbook that can do it all and keep it under your seat :)

andysgarage Aug 4, 2011 10:18 AM

Have you ever used the acess port or access tuner race?

ianVIII Aug 11, 2011 05:42 PM

Ya will it work for Evo 9 mr

andysgarage Oct 6, 2011 05:05 PM

I would check with Cobb to see if the evo 8 ap can be reprogrammed for an evo 9. While the cars look similar there are many differences starting with the ecu. evo 9 mr, great car, if the evo 8 ap wont work. keep searching for an access port. don't believe the negative hype about the ap. most are upset cobb doesn't support it any more. I've had mine for three years and Cobb has helped me over the phone a couple of times, and access tuner race sets up your ecu like an aftermarket ecu(like aem with 3d maps and piont and click changes to maps). with access tuner race tuning i can outrun nearly every naturally aspirated car(v8,v10,v12)and some supercharged cars(v8s) without any engine or turbo upgrades.the evolution 9 mr is one of the best street cars of all time.

petetheheat1604 Oct 21, 2011 11:48 AM

I have an Evo 8 AP

I don't have the OBD Connector but I have the software device. Selling it unless some one has a OBD Connector for the Evo 8/9 AP, the one that is discontinued.

slads Oct 27, 2011 05:22 AM

I have one as well. It's listed in the FS section.

anthony penn313 Nov 12, 2011 11:09 AM
