Don't miss this! The Evo UTEC is Out!!!!

I think this is news that applies generally to all of us interested in adding power to our cars, even though the mods may want this thread moved (sorry guys). It's late arriving, and it's launch has been buried in the vendor and engine management forums, but I want all you guys to check this out and let's discuss!

This thing is the sh**!!! Built-in launch control, knock detection through a flashing CEL and data-logging, you gotta be freakin kidding me!

Um, what are the power gains with this thing? I couldn't find it in the brochur thing, and I understand they will dirrer, but if it were a map for raw power, what can it push?

EvolvedfromaWRX Mar 4, 2004 08:39 PM

yey its the same as for the wrx...its awesome i had it for the rex, and i'll have it for the evo...

EvilBlueEvo8 Mar 4, 2004 08:50 PM

how much is it going to be? similar to the XEDE? like $900?

eevoo Mar 4, 2004 08:50 PM

Hey Mitchubishi, I live in Buffalo Grove too, how about that! Maybe you've seen me around, I drive a black one with the little spoiler. Then again, no one ever really sees me ;-)

Anyways, good question about the power, time will tell. I think it's not really about pushing power, just adjusting timing, fuel and boost to take full advantage of your mods. I think people see mostly similar results with comparable engine management systems depending on their mods, I would expect vishnu-like numbers from these guys. Expect about +20-30 hp on a stock car, +30-40 with an exhaust, and with cams, intercoolers and turbos the sky's the limit.

They put together sweet stage packages for the WRX, I'm sure EvolvedfromaWRX could attest to that!

eevoo Mar 4, 2004 08:52 PM

$999 I believe. Falls smack in between a piggyback and a standalone, and actually, if you read the description, that's technically what it is.

EvolvedfromaWRX Mar 4, 2004 09:16 PM

yeah its...40whp with a txs catback exhaust...with the basemap...you can tune it for much more...depending on your mods and how aggressive u want to go. but a bolt on 40whp is good to me...untuned and pig rich. they are 100% safe base maps which always leave plenty of room for improvement

I really don't see any difference between this and an Xede. They seem to do the same things. The one advantage I see to the Utec is the 5 maps and easier install.

Hey eevoo, thanks for the friendly response, I swore I was going to get flamed for that post {devil}. I'm still trying to learn about everything new engine managment system's can do, but I'm also leaning towards Turbo XS becuase I've heard so many good things about this new UTEC and I know of their quality work. Unfortunately , I've never seen your evo, never the less one with a low sleeper spoiler. The only black evo I've seen around here is Bill's (also got a ride in it, jeez was it fast) , dunno his name here, but hit up www.windycityevos.net and we can talk.

Chiptorque, the guys that make the xede in Australia, has a very nice product in the xede, but the hardware they use to implement their solution is very different from that of the UTEC.

The UTEC has its own injector drivers and ignition drivers. It drives the car under all circumstances. While it does use the stock ECU for some functions, it is in reality much closer to a stand-alone then it is to a true piggyback.

As we update the firmware for the UTEC new features will be added that distinguish it further from the piggyback market.
