kungfugirl's super-merged "problems with my turbo kit" thread extravaganza!
Hey guys, I am trying to put in a turbo kit. My question is, where can i find a tap that is the correct size.
I am using a 1/2 inch npt to 5/8 heater hose barb. Now i have looked at half inch taps and they all seem so very tiny compared. I am thinking that the inside diameter of my fitting is 1/2 inch, so what is the outer diameter? I can't seem to find a tap over half inch... Anyone have any pics of the process of tapping the pan. Thanks. Any help would be nice, I don't know much about this stuff. {thumbup} |
You will need a 1/2" NPT tap, not a regular tap... The thread is taper to get proper seal. 1/2" npt fitting is arround 3/4" outside diameter.
Go on http://www.mcmaster.com/ and look on page 3. You will get some information about NPT (National Pipe Taper). You can order tap on this site if you want. |
Check in with plumbing supply stores or locally owned hardware (not "home improvement") stores. Places like Lowes/Home Depot likely won't have it.

You don't have to order it, we got it from Ace Hardware. If you don't need it by today I can check to see what the exact sizes and stuff were. Ours fits perfect with no leaks. Heres a pic of it tapped:

Here's a set I bought from Harbor Freight tools. That's a great tool store if you've never been to one. Check them out online and you can find out if there's one near you.
