Turbo do's and dont's

hey, Im getting my turbo installed(rrm non ic t28) and I wanted to know how some of you turboed guys treat your turbos. Whats good to do for longer turbo life, and what's not safe to do, i.e is it safe to rev your engine at a neon with a universal wing? :p

lmao @ neon
:lol:

revving wont hurt anything. The only thing you need to do is let the car idle before turning it off. Longer if your turbo is oil cooled only.

10sec after a easy run
30secs after a hard run is plenty

and since your only going to run <10psi, you dont have to worry about straining the turbo

or you could have a turbo timer and it turns it self off {thumbup}

well thats a given, but i wouldnt waste the time of money on a oil and watercooled turbo since they will cool extrememly fast. I can wait 5-10secs before shutting down

thats good stuff, i got a two alarm that has a turbo mode where I can leave the car and set the time for it to shutoff, back to the viper instruction manual now. Thanks guys

Turbo timer = good
Coolant lines (if applicable) = good
Using an I/C = smart
BOV = duh!
Proper weight oil = good
Oil dump tube @ a decline = smart
EGT guage = good insurance

LancerOZ Boy Jan 4, 2008 02:24 PM

Well if you have a turbo you would want more than just a EGT gauge.

cincy Jan 4, 2008 02:31 PM

if your not changing the tune and keeping the boost <10psi, a egt isnt all that needed.
