California legal modding?

I am completely new to modifying vehicles and I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me toward a resource to find decent parts that are California legal for a 2004 Lancer oz rally. Specifically, I am interested in upgrading exhaust and cold air intake at the moment, but I don't know where to find parts that will pass smog.

Hello and thanks for joining us on the EvOM boards. You will need to source parts that carry the CARB certification.

Or you can do what i just did w/my DD (Scion XB) & pull the non compliant parts & reinstall the stockers every 2 years :crap:

for exhaust,, magnaflow makes a carb legal header that's made out of stainless steel, compared to cast iron that oem is made out of... for catback, as long as you don't fondle with the cat on header or past downpipe, any exhaust shop can make you a catback from aluminum..... I had my catback since 2008 on my 03 oz and still pass smog.... I had to replace the oem header that has precat built in due to failure...

carb legal header from magnaflow will run aboot $500 on avg.... that's 50 state legal....
intake will run aboot 250$ from likes of aem or k&n both are carb legal....
you can find intakes on amazon … along with stainless steel header, also found on amazon.....
.. now if you header is ok, not throwing any codes and passing as is, don't bother replacing it until it fails... I only replaced mine cause it failed smogg

Basically, anything after the catalytic converter is fair game. Anything from the air filter to the cat. needs to have a C.A.R.B. number. Most websites will list if a part is C.A.R.B. exempt or not for use in Kalifornia.
