Question: Stock headunit w/ Upgraded speakers

1. I want to keep my stock headunit, because of theft.

2. I want to upgrade the factory speakers, because two of my factory speakers are blown.

3. I have an amplifier sitting around so I would like to use it with the new speakers.

Can I do that? Would it sound better than stock? Is it worth doing with the factory headunit?

Thanks in advance!

How about running a sub and amp off the stock headunit. I was given a Rockford Fosgate sub and amp from my brother in law this past weekend, but don't have the money for a new head unit now. Any way to do this? does the stock player have any sort of power for this?

^Do some research on how the electronics get said "power"...it's not from the deck. The amp will read the audio signal, providing you get inline adaptors changing the line from speaker wire to RCAs. Might I suggest a visit to Best Buy or Circuit City or your local stereo shop...

You'll need a(n) "LOC" or "line out converter" to tap the speaker leads and turn them into a usable line-level output for your amp's input.

I'm gonna say yes, yes, no - the factory hu isn't a good platform in this regard. It can be used, but you won't have nearly the control you would with a good aftermarket hu - it also probably has filters and eq in place that can't be adjusted, which could be a real pain in the *** when it comes to tuning the system.

For instance, if you're tapping the leads of the rear speakers to get your amp a signal and the headunit has a highpass filter in place for the rear channel that doesn't contain content below 80hz, your subwoofer isn't gonna have much to do back there.
