most of the time the wire colors are universal.

red = battery
yellow = ignition
orange = illumination
black = ground

green, purple, grey, white = speaker (-)
above with stripes = speaker (+) or vice versa

blue with stripe = remote wire for amp

Those are the essential wires for almost ANY head unit install.

I don't know if this is what you meant but hope this helps

well you didn't have to be a dick about it. try making your question a little clearer next time. and fiy, not everyone knows what all the colored wires mean.

Hey,
Installed my Kenwood Head Unit/10 CD Changer system today and was unable to get a harness in the UK. I managed to get an 07 Lancer harness plug to connect to the car loom by modifying it somewhat. The speaker wire colours i found were as follows:

Front Left Speaker + White/Blue
Front Left Speaker - Black/Yellow

Front Right Speaker + White/Red
Front Right Speaker - Black/Red

Rear Left Speaker + Yellow/Blue
Rear Left Speaker - Gray/Blue
Rear Right Speaker + Yellow/Red
Rear Right Speaker - Gray/Red

From what i recall, Red/White was permenent live and Yellow/X was ignition live. Just check them with a meter to be sure.

The tweaters appear to be on seperate wires so they don't work for me at the moment. Need to take a better look, maybe have to install a crossover onto the front speakers.

Hope this helps.
James.

i did it myself with a voltmeter

red is actually the constant which = yellow for aftermarket
yellow is the 12v ignition which = red for aftermarket

there are two blacks and only one of them are ground

so you will have to play with them to figure which one is actually ground..

now this is only for the guys that cut there factory radio wire harness off and are only playing with wires

hey it's cool. thanks for the info as well.

I'm trying to find wire diagrams for the amplifier wiring cuz I want to replace the factory amp and sub. I get what you're asking about now cuz I have no idea what each wire is! Why does factory have to be b!tches about wiring?? lol

If it were all aftermarket setup like the rest of the world it's be so much easier.

How about the wires colors for us with the Rockford Premium System?
I talked to metra today, and a harness is in development, but there is no eta for release.

yeah. that's what I'm asking about.
I'd go and experiment but I don't want to mess around with the harness.

Yeah, its really pissing me off... Ive got the metra dash kit, my DVD head unit installed and powered up w/my satellite hooked up. Just NO sound... Its a tease.

I have read the schematics in the factory service manual, and have found two remote turn on wires that go from my HU to the factory amp, but am lost after that. Normally i would run an RCA to the amp, but not sure when it comes to stock wires.

so how did the install go?

there isn't info about the amp harness, which kinda sucks but it's good info none the less.
