a question about subs and amps ...
a question about subs and amps ...
my question here is if i get two 12's in the back what would be the best way to power them? with a 2 way amp or 2 mono amps? i was just wondering if it would hit harder or get better sound having mono amps instead of a 2 way amp to power subs.
A single mono amp can power 2 subs. Depending on what you're doing, this is probably the way to go.
Which subs are you trying to push?
Is this a comp setup, or just for banging around town?

also, what is the impedance of these subs?
i would suggest doing some research into car audio setups and wiring so you can become familiar with how everything works. it'll make it a lot easier and more interesting when comes time to install.

so as for a set up i just want something that bangs. so i am looking in the near future to get the subs and amp setup. so i was either thinking about getting like two 12's or if it would be better just to get one sub and a mono amp like a 15 inch sub just want a bounce not looking for much compitition so as far as money goes im trying to get an alpine deck right now hoping to get a 9815 or 9813 but see what my budget can support. just wondering how much the setup i was just talking about would run me?

Heres the deal though... A lot of people forget this. The overall loudness of two subs, each taking, say, 150watts of a 300watt rms amp will be IDENTICAL to 1 sub taking the full 300. If you're not buying one huge amp, then just get one sub. Otherwise, either get a really powerful amp, or two average ones for two subs.
Uh... how much would what setup run you... all I see is 2 12"s or 1 15" that puts you anywhere from $50 to $2000 in drivers, and $100 to $5000+ in amps.
How about you give us a price range to work with?

well in all total just only for my headunit, subs, amp and everything in between i think i dont want to exceed 600. so im looking at getting an alpine 7995 deck but it can change, im bidding on a sony mono amp not very powerful but just a good deal its a xm-d400p5, i was looking to get maybe a 15 inch woofer from sony also for like 90 bucks. then i dont know what everything else costs so like wiring .. i can put the deck in myself but to wire the amp and everything i think i might get ryancb to help me out there.
so now my question is that if i do get two mono amps how do you wire it up. i just bought a alpine 9813 headunit and it has three rca pre outs for amps and one of them is for a sub. and if any of you know a good place for me too look up just audio setups let me know!
yo... 98-13 is a cool deck =D
i have a full alpine system
alpine 9815 with two alpine v12 amps , 1 4 channel and one 2/1 channel for the sub... and two alpine 10inch type=-s subs =D
with the wiring on those .. what u would most likely do is run separate power lines to each amp... some peopel use one and splice off of the second amp but i heard its not gret like that .. u can lose power or somethign... with the rca pre-outs, u can either get a rca splitter and split FROM THE DECK not at the end.. u get better stronger signal like that.. then connet to ur amps... or you can just run it from the sub pre out and the rear channel pre-out..your amp should have a low-pass crossover on it and that'll make it just the same... but you SHOULD get just one amp and power both.. its easier and will save u money
