The light that was on is labeled PROT. I have an Audiobahn A2801X and my cap is and Audiobahn ACAP1P.

I dont know? Take the cap off and see if everything works without it being installed. It has something to do with the way you wired the cap to your setup. or else the amp wouldnt work

Run battery to + on cap, + on cap to amp then chassis - to - on cap and - on cap to - on amp. And then just check all your other wireing again

I think the problem is the ground on the cap somehow. I tried chasis to - on cap to - on amp instead of seperately grounding the amp and cap in different places and it still doesnt work. One interesting thing is that when I only had the amp ground terminal connected to the negative on the cap the red light on the back of the amp lit up, with no real ground connection to the chasis for either one. Still getting a headache over this one though...

there is your problem, do - on amp to chassis ground then - on cap to chassis ground, 2 separate grounds. Keep them under 8 inches if possible, long grounds cause feedback and distortion.

EDIT: the PROT light means your amp went into protection because of a bad ground
