how many watts 2 push this

AW1006Q
FLAME Q SUBWOOFER
120oz Double stacked Mag
Power Handling: 900 watts RMS
frequency response 22Hz-500Hz
Efficiency: 95dB
Dual 4 Ohm VC
2 or 8 Ohm Operation

how many watts should the amp be pushin im thinkin a max of 2000 sound right?? also the efficiency is that better when its higher???

It has been my expierence that more watts isnt important. Quality watts and signal are. Quality watts may be lower but the output is higher. Example- I have a kicker ZR-240 and an Orion Extreme 500.4 Kicker is 240 watts Orion is 500. Kicker literally kicks the crap out of the Orion when driving a 15" DVC Pioneer. So I would buy the highest wattage kicker I could affoard to drive that monster woofer of yours. 240 Kicker watts on my pioneer 15 really rocks.

Of course none of this matters much if you dont have 4v pre-outs on the deck, high voltage preouts is like doubling the power on the amp, they are a must have.

forgot the efficiency I anything over 90db is good. I think every 3db added the sound is doubled

you should get an amp with an rms rating at or near the rms rating of your speaker. in this case, a 900 watt rms amp.

that efficiency is very good. that means at 1 meter, 1 watt of power will produce 95 dB of signal. 3dB does mean a double in loudness, but not to your ear. a 10dB jump means double loudness to your ear.

and that is exactly why I love my 10db system turbo switch, one flick of a button and my face cringes! :headbang:

i am using a sony xplod with 1200 watts at 1 ohm. pushing 2 tens with a 500 watt rms at 2ohms. its to much power. makes it to muddy. that is when the kenwood excelon comes in ... with 4V pre-out and deck gain and phase control.:headbang:

diablo2184 Mar 11, 2003 05:32 PM

go with the 1200 kicker.

Hellacious Mar 11, 2003 09:44 PM

watts dont really matter, like someone above said, but it does matter some. go to an audio store and they will hook you up.

airlinevomitbag Mar 11, 2003 09:55 PM

shops will hook you up with a phat bill and a ****ty system. Kicker is bullet proof any of the kx models or old zx but not any of the old impulse crap.

EDIT: zr not zx

how do watts not matter? it's probably the most important thing in your car audio setup to consider. if a speaker says 900watts rms, get an amp that puts out 900 watts rms. it's not that hard.

distortion

Guys dont forget that the rated distortion lvl at high wattage makes a difference as well {noface} Sony Explode's are not the highest rated amps, they were made for comercial sales. " good guys, wal mart, circut city ect." just like the low line of fosgates. Although fosgate's original line punch 45 can run up to 48 speakers and sound great, this is something i learned when i went to arizona and went to classes for authorazation for fosgate, that was years ago though alot has changed. Cadence , Audiobahn, and competition lines of fosgate are some of the best sound per power ams out there , of course this is only my opinion )
