How's Alpine's bass engine pro?

Hello,

I'm a newbie with the audio stuff and done some research and already made some purchases for my audio setup and i've decided to go alpine with the bass engine pro.

I wanted a decent setup without an external amp.

It's a little too late but i took a shot in the dark and made these purchases.

Alpine CDA-9815 reciever.
Front: Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X178 6-3/4" 2-way Speakers
Rear: Kenwood KFC-1789ie 6-3/4" 3-way Speakers

My question concerns with a 10 guage wire. Is that a must? And is that only for Alpines? Also would factory wireing adequate for my setup?

10 gauge wire for what? looks like all you are doing is replacing the face and the speakers. get a mitsubishi harness adapter (from crutchfield or a local shop or something) and wire up the harness, it makes it easier than splicing in wires in the dash. i'm not sure what 10 gauge wire you are talking about.

It say Alpine's V-Drive internal amplifier requires a direct fused connection. They recommend a 10 guage wire or something. What will happend if I run it without the 10 guage fuse setup?

how many watts is the internal amp?

cupOZnj Mar 16, 2003 08:09 PM

i just took a look at that head...i don't see why you would need to run a direct fused 10 gauge. it doesn't say the rms wattage, but it says 60x4 and that's probably peak. stock harness should be fine.

It's a 27 watt RMS whatever that means. I just figure more is better :dunno:

get a harness adapter. go to www.crutchfield.com , order the harness adapter for the lancer, and it comes with a master sheet for the car and stereo install instructions. it even tells you how to install the speakers.

I'll second what's already been said. There's nothing to indicate a need for higher gauge wiring.

Realistically, if the stereo does happen to pull more current than we expect, then the worst it will do is blow the fuse for the stereo. If it does, then you can take their suggestion and no harm is done. I very strongly doubt that will ever happen though.

Maybe I just wait for the recieve to arrive. Perhaps there will be more instruction about the 10 guage with fuse. I see it's like $30 on crutchfield. I should of ordered the wire from carmedia1 where i purchase the reciever. I guess i'll get the harness for now and get that wire at my local stero shop or something.

cupOZnj Mar 16, 2003 08:38 PM

what's $30? a harness should be like 9 bucks with 5 dollar shipping comes to 14.

as for wire, i may get chewed out for this, but just go to home depot and get some wire there (if you decide you need it, which you don't IMO). it'll be much cheaper. my stereo is all home depot wire, and it works fine (cept radio shack RCAs...yeah not monster cable, these were $20 for 20feet of gold plated. no interference at all, no reason to spend tons of money on wires)

Try Wal-Mart too, they sometimes have alot of different wire harnesses for cars in the automotive section. I think people would be surprised what you can find at Wal-Mart thats just as good as what catalog and stereo shop places have, and alot cheaper too!

yeah, but then you have to go to walmart and stand in line while some 80 year old checks out some lady that's buying 40 different shirts, slowly scanning each item and placing it properly (as close as can get) folded in it's own plastic bag.

i used to go to walmart all the time when i was at college, after about 9/10 bad experiences there i swore never to go there ever again.

the stuff at walmart just seems to "cheap"..it's a cool store to go to to find anythin...but as far as speakers and decks and stuff like that...:thumbdown

cupOZnj Mar 16, 2003 11:58 PM

he wasn't really talking about buying speakers there, he just mentioned wiring harness which is universal. it's gonna be the same whether you buy it at walmart or at your professional audio installation shop.
