what's the worst that can happen?
hey,
i just installed my system last night, its a 10" rock ford sub and a "Boss" amp 850W. Im using a 8gauge wiring kit. I barely had the amp on, and the sub was clearly heard, but nothing crazy, if you were standing outside of my car, you can't hear it. Anyways, the lights were dimming like crazy! I read up on it, i know ive got to redo my grounds in the engine bay and possibly get a cap (ive got one but i dont know if it still works, its beat up...) My question is, is the dimming bad for my car? am i going to kill my alternator? or battery? I want to turn up the system a bit so i can hear it, but i just need to know if im going to mess up my electronics. thanks |
You will probably go through a few alternators. You can try what you want but if everthing is installed correctly, the only way to almost stop the dimming is a high ouput alternator or a second battery. And get those power and ground wires upgraded in the engine bay. Good Luck.

if that doesnt fix it, u have some other problem. |
its been covered and proved many times, caps dont do crap do not get one!
the only caps that atcually work are the like 40 farads which is basically a small 2nd battery and will just strain your alternator more. in other words just dont get one. use 4 guage wire and make sure you dont have your gain turned up where its drawing a bunch of power. upgrading the alternator isnt worth it for what you are running, unless you really cant put up with the dimming. |
alright, ill get my amp kit wire changed to a 4 gauge and ill change my under hood grounds to something bigger, as big as i can get my hands on! thanks
