Is the AEM EMS worth the money?
Is the AEM EMS worth the money?
Since I'm well on my way to having my Turbo setup almost pieced together, I've started thinking about engine management, and from what I've been reading on most of them, I like the AEM so far, is it hard to use? Is there a better system? Does it even work with a 2004, because every site I've went to always says 02'-03'... Any help would be appreciated!! Thanx!!
If you have the modifications to warrant a standalone...absolutely. Read any of the dozens of comments I've made regarding the leap to an AEM EMS or similar standalone EMS (Haltech being the only other P&P I'm aware of).
No doubt, the AEM is the current way to go for best user tunability......but in the next few months, I feel that the tuner creations from Ecutek and Dynoflash etc., will surpass the tunability of the AEM
Here is my reasoning: Stock ECU foundations are the safest way to go, because of the dozens of redundant safety features that were designed with millions of dollars and time by Mitsubishi. Why remove a wonderful part of the car that can be built upon so easily?
For instance, the XEDE from VISHNU with its SMART capabilites are almost endless. You get the same multituning capability (meth, nitrous, racefuel maps, etc.) as the AEM for a lot cheaper, and you still have the amazing engine safety management. Check out the various tuner sites for more info, as this is my 2 cents, and I only have a mail in flash, but will be upgrading to SMART very soon......

I myself would love to go standalone but the thought of not being able to take my car to wide section of mechanics makes me wary of anything that requires such a knowledgeable user.
