better flow through factory scoop

ok...so i was bored this afternoon and decided to just poke around under my hood.now i have the RMR intake that incorporates the factory scoop.i was woundering how to better use it and get more flow to the filter.when i took it off i noticedthe funky shape stuff on it's underbelly.now if you look through the scoop you'll see that there is a hole that allows the air to go into it and slow it down...more useless flow.so what i did was to cut a small piece of plastic(left over from a old rc car body)and used 5 min epoxy and closed it off so the air would flow straight through with less restriction.i don't know how much use this will do or if it is usefull to anyone else but just thought i'd let you know what i found with my tinkering since i know the smoother the air flow the better.my next thinf is replaceing that stock rubber tubeing behind the MAS...gona custom bend some aluminum pipeing and try it this weekend.

yea, that little box thing underneath is suppoed to slow the air down..it makes air flow more smooth and constant or something..i forget, but a lot of cars with stock intakes have it.

did u notice any significant gains after doing this though? lol how about connecting a tube from the tip of the filter to the stock intake..some airfilters have openings on the tip and some don't, but if yours does, maybe connecting that to the stock CAI might help? i dunno, but good luck on your project!

EDIT: i dunno if this is right, but that box is called a DIFFUSER..i think?

Good idea Trance... i did that as well... then i had a better thought. You ever notice that the placement of the stock scoop sucks? When hood is down there is practically no real flow there anyways. Solution lower it to the underside above fan of course... also cut that bottom(silencer) off the sucker leaving your hole covered. That way it isn't bulky and you'll be able to mount it better(upside down) Just a thought for you to try. It really doesn't do much in actuallity.

true...if there was a diff i couldnt notice but some people in here are into the little things like that.i also thoutht about better placement but since i have the RMR intake and it is made to fit the scoop where it is now i didnt want to make any other bends in the flow.but i was thinking like you and am thinking of cutting off that bottem part and routing a second tube to another scoop down lower where air can flow in better(i also don't know if this will make a diff but it is worth a try)i am kinda limited in how i route the pipeing since i have a automatic.just thinking of things i can tinker with since i don't have the money to get the stuff i want...who knows what may work or not unless you try
