05 Lancer ES--When to change timing belt

Hi eveyone,

This is my first post on the forum. I just purchased a 05 Lancer es on Fri(6/15)and I love it. The car is in really great condition, a real cream puff.It has a standard trans and 2.0 SOHC engine.I am only the 2nd owner. It has 60,000 miles and I cannot believe how clean the engine compartment is.The previous owner really kept the car clean both exterior and interior wise the serpentine belt looks brand new and it has brand new tires and the oil was just changed. My question is I don't know if the timing belt was changed @ 60K or not ,is this the recommended change on this car or is it a 100K.Where I bought the car they didn't know either as the owner's wife brought the car into the dealer and she didn't know. This was not a Mitsubishi dealer it was a independant dealer.Any help would be appreciated

Thanks..

As a rule of thumb I always recommend 60k for timing belts. A buddy just stripped his timing belt on his Subaru 2.5rs. He paid for it big time as he had a stage two na cobb build in it at the time.

60k. Just because the car is clean means nothing, with all the chemicals used car lots use to clean cars, they can make lemons look brand new.

Hey everyone,

Can anyone tell me which is the better belt: Gates or Dayco. I have decided to get my belt /water pump and tensioner changed next week, the mechanic wants me to pick up the parts. Any info would be appreciated. I have done some research and both belts seem to be about the same, but I figured I'd get some forum opinions.

Thanks

Re:Changing timing belt

My mechanic changed my: timing belt-tensioner-water pump-serpentine-generator belt yesterday 7/5.I feel a whole lot better now, about
driving my car. The timing belt wasn't super bad, but my mechanic said it was time and the water pump wasn't very bad either, but my mechanic suggested replacing it.The only thing my mechanic said I should address fairly soon was to replace the pvc valve. The next few weeks I'm gonna check my valve clearance and change my trans fluid.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback about the timing belt.

Our cars use hydraulic lash adjusters which means there should be zero valve clearance. pcv valve is easy to replace just a few bucks and it that metal thing coming out of your valve cover with a rubber hose on it going to the intake manifold.
