Yet another, wait for it, engine swap (I know a lot of threads about this one)
SO I'm here to talk about another engine swap. First here is my story.
I bought my '02 OZ March of '12 for $400 down and pay $185 a month for two years (I was 17 at the time I was lucky I got financed). I decided I would pay $185 every two weeks to pay it off in a year and I accomplished that. I hated the fact the car was Automatic since my first two cars where Manual (Golf GL and Izuzu Amigo) I've always wanted to do a 5 speed swap but thought it would be too much and didn't want to go through all that much hassle since the car ran perfectly. Well guess what!? Freaking tranny effed up yesterday! I don't know what happened, it was just sitting in my garage when I saw all that tranny fluid on the ground!
CV Axle popped out and a small crack on the side of the shell.
So after being pissed off all day yesterday I finally calmed down and started thinking if I should scrap the car or try and fix it. I thought this was the perfect opportunity, and well, I was looking around the forum to see if anybody has accomplished an Auto to Manny swap but no luck
. I was thinking well I can do this. I'll just take the car to my old High School and have Mr. Rodgers (My old Auto Tech Teacher) help me with the swap. "SWAP" I thought, "ENGINE SWAP! That's it!"
Perfect time to get more power out of this little thing! So what did I do?! Search engine swaps of course! 4G64 with a 63T Head... Hmm That sounds nice. I've been doing my research and I think I can accomplish this with no more than $1500-$2000. Including the Auto to Manual Swap.
Well this project would start about in September, a month after school starts. But why so far into the future
Well I don't have enough space nor the right tools to do it in my garage, but my high school teacher does and I would be able to use all the tools free of charge. It would be helping education
I would have the students work on small easy stuff and have them paint the exterior (Might as well, I would love this car to be red). So I know I'm a little
but I'm one of those people that give out more info than I should and I hate that about myself. Anyways! The labor would be free, I would have all the tools needed, and I can take my sweet *** time since I have a second vehicle to go to work and back plus I'm not rich at all and buying an EVO would be NICE but WAY OFF my price range.
Question is, should I do it, what problems would I face or could face, and is it worth it? Have in mind I'm a College student that makes on average $600 a week and pay bills. I could start saving next week and won't have the money to buy an engine till the End of August or mid September. I don't really want to part with this car since it's the first car I buy on my own and have put a lot of money on the way the interior sits. Please
I know for a fact this whole project will take no less than 5-6 months because of work, school and other stuff. But it's better than scrapping the car for $200-$300 tops, right?

Man... The 63 swap is rough. But there are a few here who've done it.
You start by asking questions but how about starting with searching in our lancer threads for the people who've done it. There's a guy who JUST finished his. Pretty much documented the whole thing.
And there are people who've done the auto to manual swap. People just didn't take pictures.
Might I suggest something different? Do a 6g twin turbo swap. They bolt in the mirages from what I hear relatively easy. Research that.

I know it's rough but time is no biggie. I haven't heard about the 6G swap. I'll look into that. I'm gonna see if I can find that thread about the most recent 4G6X swap.
