You won't see any significant power gains from the 4G94 engine without going turbo. The best upgrade you can do short of a turbo is a piggyback ECU system. Once you install that, buy yourself a tactrix cable and start learning how to tune. On a stock tune, the Lancer runs very rich and knocks a lot, pulling timing and in turn decreasing power. Check out the tuning section and the forced induction section. You could spent more money on N/A upgrades than on a turbo kit and still see less power.

Sourcing parts for your own custom turbo kit with be significantly cheaper than a pre-built one. There are plenty of guides for that here on the EvoM.

But in all seriousness I'm saving up cause I'm switching my engine to an 03 evo I have 2 grand saved up in about 2 months I should have 3 grand and will have my new engine then I'm doing a trans swap but that will take me like 3 -4 more months

You know that you'll need a custom fabbed motor mount for a 4g63 swap, correct? Plus some bits of the wiring harness that you have won't work with the new engine. There's a thread about it somewhere on here

I wonder why I am even replying in this thread as the 230+ views have not replied either.

There are many things wrong with this combination.....
1. lancer es
2. fwd
3. automatic

I get your budget, I fully understand as I think many of us on the forum have been there at some point in our lives.

Lets say you switch to the 4g63 - you will be into the engine for a good $4k after engine, mounts, wire hireness, etc. Thats if you buy a cheap long block and rebuild the block. if you buy a new block your looking at $3k just for that.

your into the car for $6k + assuming that all goes well.

No offense and I assume I will get murdered for this, but if this was my $6k - $7k that I was spending to have fun with a car

I would have

a. bought a used rsx and played with that... great suspension, great gear box, great motor to start with.

b. gone with a miata - easily pick up a clean higher mileage miata for $2k - put a basic turbo kit on that car and enjoy....

I know you already bought the car, but you are going to end up with a ton of money into this lancer project and the car is really only going to be worth a small amount once its done.

thats just my personal opinion of starting with a great project car.

Unless you just love the lancer it's not worth it. I have shelled out more than twice what I paid for into the lancer already lol but I love this stupid car.

First off do whatever you feel is necessary to make your car fun. After all, you're the one that's gong to be driving it.....mostly.

If you don't have that much money take your time and plan. Do everything in steps. Probably fix or add one thing every month. You are aware of how much you can get out of this engine, since you don't have much cash why not just make the car a better, functional dd in the meantime.
