do i need a valve cover gasket?

Hey if i replace my valve cover w/ a new RRM one do i need to replace the gasket as well? i bought one but if i dont need it i'll take it back and get my $40 bucks from the dealer?

It's always recommended, but generally speaking I don't think it's absolutely necessary. I would personally advise changing pretty much any gasket when you remove and replace a part of the motor.

The valve cover gasket isn't a critical one unless it completly blows out you will just leak a little oil. My gut here is your car is new enough that the old gasket probably still has enough spring in it to seal again. I never re-use mine but i'm a little insecure and hate to clean up oil spills on my gagage floor.

Absolutely true, Wild. I like to think of replacing gaskets as preventative maintenance though. Not only does it potentially prevent a fire, but it also prevents you from having to do the work twice.

hmm ok

sounds like it may be worth the extra $40 just to have the peace of mind of a "fresh" gasket

a little off topic but
when I got my catback on it had one of those metal "crush" type gaskets between the cat and the pipe. I didn't replace it and to my suprise, it doesn't leak. I would have if I had one on hand though. Always a good idea to change any gasket you come across .

$40!?? I got mine from the dealer for $16.
