Valve Adjustment? lifters?

Probably a dumb question but hey, having a dumb question answered makes me not ask it next time...Under light loads like say 5-15% throttle at any speed i'm getting a faint chattering sound, sounds like shaky valves, also happens when the car is bone chilling cold (like 40 degrees and below) right after startup anywhere between 1500 and 2200 rpms but its much more noticeable then and goes away after a minute or two of warmup but still remains quieter at 5-15% throttle. Sound like i just need a valve adjustment? I've decided this week to start collecting my turbo parts and start little by little installs so in the meantime before the actual turbo parts go on i want to diagnose and fix all the little ticks and problems that exist so the motor is a happy motor. Just let me know what you guys think

That problem won't go away. I don't know of any Lancer that doesn't have noisy lifters.

Can't adjust lifters in a Lancer, only in a Ralliart. Lancers have noisy lifter (valve lash adjusters). They are automatic, self adjusting unlike solid lifters.
The only thing you can do is try:

^^^ So true!!! I have the same "problem", but it doesn't harm the motor in any way. Just have to live with it, sorry...

Yeah i knew you couldnt adjust the lifters, just figured i'd see if it was just a stupid problem that can't be fixed. I had the same problem when i had my 1g dsm, just making sure it was the same thing. I'm gonna get it checked out when i get my alignment done next week. F*ckin belt parkway potholes. Destroyed a brand new tire. bbooo

Had the same problem a year ago, I use high rpm oil now, with Lucas additive....no more noise.

I have a similar noise, only what i have is a lifter that went bad. When the engine heats up it doesn't go away, it stays just as bad. However I think lifters are only like $8 per lifter, and i should only have 1-2 bad.

N1TE

dont ya love that sound when the lancer is cold . .sounds like a frikin air cooled VW with all the lifters clacking away >=)

Might as well put it on some tracks and call it a train, clackin away......ok that was a bad joke haha, but yeah, good old mitsubishi design, well lets just all be thankful we dont have the 2g 4g63 hidden nightmare.....Crankwalk

i had a nasty valve tap and started using lucas oil. it eliminated most of the noise from the lash adjusters and what not....only problem --> when i started using it on every other oil change (rather than always) it started sounding really bad. now i just stick with regular oil and no stablizer. it eventually quited itself down.
