I don't think RRM has released the specs.

im just wondeing the specs. because if it retains stock springs and desnt require managment to function, the grind must be so mild. Also wndering why they don't have one for man and auto seperate. wanted anyone to shed some light on the situation.

Blacksheepdj Mar 15, 2007 10:30 AM

RRM will never release the specs. They are very proprietary that way.

:mitsu: uses the same cam for auto and manual. Why would you think RRM would need to change it?
Also, just because you can use the stock valvetrain doesn't mean it's overly mild. The stock parts are generally pretty forgiving until you start to get rather aggressive.

How difficult is it to put in a cam on our cars? And would there be any benifit in using valve springs with a stage 1 cam?

No benefit to valve springs that I can think of. As for install, if you don't know what you're doing, get it done professionally.

So how do you choose a cam that is right for you, if you dont know what spec of cam you are getting?

Like asking HKS to send you some good cams for an Evo but HKS wont say if they are 264s or 272s oe 280s.

You have to trust RRM.

^^^ Great question!

Blacksheepdj Mar 16, 2007 07:29 AM

Nick said it best - RRM's sales stance is "trust us, we did the R&D, we know what you need."

The problem is that they sell "one size fits all" parts. They advertise stuff as being good for N/A or turbo. That's great, but if you want a hardcore setup (either N/A or turbo), RRM's parts are too tame. It's just the way the business works. They have enough people that will buy it "because RRM said it's good", so that's how they can do things.

Basically, if you're OK with buying a "one size fits all" part, you do it. If not, you go the custom route like some people here on EvoM.

using valve springs

to the question above about benefiting from valve springs. you would benefit if you were running enough pressure to float the valves. my two cents.

Blacksheepdj Mar 16, 2007 09:03 AM

Chances are good he won't be approaching valve float, though. You have to get pretty agressive before that becomes and issue.

this is wrong. this is car modding, this isnt buying a cd player. 99.9% of cams have profiles listed. otherwise i don't know what im getting. thats like buying a turbo kit and not knowing what turbo it has, or what the boost is set at. im just not willing to do it.

i have an rrm turbo so im not bashing them for sure. great kit, they have some cool products, but i fear im getting the stock mirage profile and nothing more, so why would i spend 400 bucks on that?

ambystom01 Mar 16, 2007 10:33 AM

Why not ask RRM if it's the same profile as the mirage? I'm sure they'd be willing to tell you that.
