Apex'i style filter on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634

they're making some pretty bold claims that this filter (more-so this design) will outperform a simliar k&n.

anybody have any proof or experience to back this up?

overall, not bad for 19 bucks.

I guess anytime you can increase the surface area of a filter it is going to be able to pull more air, I wouldn't be suprised if it does "outperform K&N". If it does its prolly by a hair and you would never know the difference. This is essentially a no name product and you always get what you pay for, no names (tyfoon!?) typically have no help lines or customer service or support after you buy it. All you are getting is a cheap filter.

actually, i was more wondering what the actual apexi filter would do. and i don't think they are claiming gains so much on surface area, but rather on the reduction of air turbulence from the inverted inner cone.

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM TYFOON, they have the worst junk ive ever seen, its like worse than this APC crap they sell at kraagen so dont be fooled by cheap imitators, stick with the well known and trusted. Many vendors of this forum are very good i recommend them.

They are splitting hairs and stretching if they think the inverted cone reduces turbulence enough to make a significant effect on the average intake. Sounds like the intake tornado/cookie cutter claim. It's all smoke, mirrors and make-up. If it did anything the inverted cone would just attract dirt and condensation ect. If it was like 5 bucks I'd bite on this but not for 20. I has a cheap filter that basically was rusted to nothing in about a year when I was younger, I pulled my AEM off a couple weeks ago and that has been there for close to a year and it looked like I just pulled it from the box.
