Painting Valve Cover Red
Painting Valve Cover Red
I know this topic was brought up in the past, but i have just read all the posts about painting a valve cover from when this topic was posted. I know to use a high temperature heat paint, but what brand paint & if I were to powder coat it, would it be better? If i altered the stock paint, would there be a chance of rust?
Please help me on this topic
My goal is to paint the valve cover red & leave the mitsubishi letters silver like this one on ebay:

powder coating it is hella expensive, just for a single piece. and you don't really need high-temp paint. normal paint can stand up to about 300F, your car shouldn't be even near that, especially the valve cover. Krylon makes decent paints, rustoleum is great too. Like a lot of things, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't say buy the most expensive paint out there, but don't use the $1 can either
I'm painting mine blue either this weekend or next. I bought this:
Duplicolor Metalcast Anodized Color I bought the ground coat and then the blue for the finish color. Picked it up at like Advanced Auto Parts. It's like $4 bucks a so for the can. Got 1 can each.

under that metalcast website there are 2 different kinds of paint for valve covers. one is the metal cast and the other is the engine enamel & high heat paint. Which one is better? There on the same site under products

-Clean valve cover
-Sand it
-Ground coat it....2 coats
-Blue Metalcast...3 coats
I ordered the suspension bars from Rob @ RDDesigns PDX Set and this is the stuff he uses for his bars so I'm matching the bars he's making for me to the valve cover so all will match.
You should be fine with that. When are you doing this? I might do it tomorrow after work and Saturday or just next weekend not sure.

im actually doing the exact same thing that sthiewes is doing with the exact same paint. I already painted my rmr strut bar and my radiator brackets.....they turned out really nice.
you can view a pick in my registry to see what the end result looks like with the paint.

i like the blue paint, looks good. For me everything under my hood is red. Red strut, red intake & well red ground wire kit, which i still need to find out how to do that, like in the directions it says connect to the enigine block or something, uhh i dunno thats another project i will tackle sometime soon.
I'll post pics of the metalcast when im done
I think it will look good. I might try the enamal because its more glossy. Supposidly there the same thing except one is high gloss for the shinyness and the metalcast is more dull
