i'd get a different muffler, i'm not a fan of the manaflow...i'm still a fan of hte GT spec mufflers...dont know why but i'm a sucker for 'em. straight through design works the best for me. but if you like the sound of the magnaflow that is all that matters.

yeah GT spec is pretty big but it sounds nice...really deep...why would the magnaflow give you more power? it's not even a straight through design.

my bad, wouldn't that mean you're getting the same power as straight through design then? so tell me how you are getting more power like you said.

after reading all this let me clear some stuff up. I already have the Magnaflow axelback from RRM. i couldnt find a catback for my car back when i got the muffler. so i want to finish the job and get a custom catback (just have my magnaflow welded on). and the back pressure for torque thing, i dont want 3" pipes, i want it to go i believe 2.5 like the magnaflow. i do plan on getting RRm headers so i can go turbo when theyre done making one. So basically this is what i can do?:
A diagram of words:

Headers
l l
Downpipe (custom)
l l
l l
Highflow Cat
l l
l l
l l
l l
Magnaflow Muffler
l l

Is that all I need or am I missing something?

Here is a little drawing I drew up for ya real quick. These are the exhaust upgrades you can do for the exhaust:

You don't want to open the exhaust up too much as you WILL lose your low end torque. You need to maintain some back pressure. This is why having:
- > 2.25" mandrel bent or > 2.5" pressure bent pipe (like 3" pipe)
- testpipe (cat delete pipe)
- high flow cat*

actually hurt your perfomance. Remember most muffler shops can do custom piping, but some don't have 1/2 million $$ for a mendrel pipe bender, therefore the larger 2.5" pressure bent pipe. You can use universal mufflers and cats and they don't have to be polished (usually more $$) no one looks under your car to even notice. Here are some companies you can get this stuff:

Header
- RPW 4-2-1 Extractors (quite possibly the best, but most $$)
- RRM 4-1 Header (can be used with their turbo kits)
- Kamikaze
- Megan Racing
- Custom (esp if you go turbo, this is likely what you have to do unless you get RRM kit)

Downpipe
- Buschur
- Kamikaze (comes with the header)
- Custom

Pipe
- eBay
- Custom (local shop)

High Flow Cat
- RRM sells one with flanges welded on
- Magnaflow Universal (note most mufflers shop won't touch your cat, it's illegal)

Resonators
- Magnaflow
- Flowmaster
- Most exhaust companies make a universal resonator

Mufflers
- Magnaflow
- Buschur
- RRM (axel back)
- RMR
- Flowmaster
- eBay

i hear alot of Magnaflow and such, i've got a Thermal R&D on my car, and i love it... its not huge like alot of these kids have, i believe the piping is 2¼" or 2½" and its got a nice deep rumble... not that loud blast from the coffee cans... but my next investment will be RRM header and a high flow cat...

OK, do i need a resonator? i know its just to quiet the sound but its not necessary is it? and for that ricey bike-like sound everyone talks bad about and stuff, no worries, thats mainly hondas, lancers dont have that problem most of the time, depends on mods.

If you get a header, your exhaust will be a lot louder. After installing my RRM header, the exhaust note was deafening at highway speeds. After installing the resonator, its much better and still has a low beefy note.

the RRM header really changed the sound of the car a lot...embarassingly a lot more like a honda...it rices out around 3400 rpm....a new resonator + muffler helped out a lot to tone down the ricey sound but it's still pretty loud.

So in your opinion, what is too open? All I have is a Buschur catback and magnaflow muffler, and cai on the intake side. Are you saying that is too open?
