Help!!! (Factory Amp/ Muffler)
Help!!! (Factory Amp/ Muffler)
I just got a 2003 oz rally. Just wanted to know if it has a factory amp. I am also looking at putting on a new muffler. But i have no idea what to get. (looking at a ralliart) Also if any one knows what size pipe would be best. I was going to do 2.5 all the way but someone told me that that could make me lose HP?
First of all, I can tell you're new. Welcome. Second of all, you've asked the same exhaust question 1000's of people before you have asked. Best size - 2.25" mandrel bent. No factory amp unless you got the Sun and Sound package which wasn't even available for the OZ. Get to know the search button well - it will help you answer all your future questions.

This should help you out for now:
Here is a little drawing I drew up for ya real quick. These are the exhaust upgrades you can do for the exhaust:

You don't want to open the exhaust up too much as you WILL lose your low end torque. You need to maintain some back pressure. This is why having:
- greater than 2.25" mandrel bent or 2.5" pressure bent pipe (like 3" pipe)
- testpipe (cat delete pipe)
- high flow cat*
actually hurt your perfomance. Remember most muffler shops can do custom piping, but some don't have 1/2 million $$ for a mendrel pipe bender, therefore the larger 2.5" pressure bent pipe. You can use universal mufflers and cats and they don't have to be polished (usually more $$) no one looks under your car to even notice. Here are some companies you can get this stuff:
Header
- RPW 4-2-1 Extractors (quite possibly the best, but most $$)
- RRM 4-1 Header (can be used with their turbo kits)
- Kamikaze
- Megan Racing
- Custom (esp if you go turbo, this is likely what you have to do unless you get RRM kit)
Downpipe
- Buschur
- Kamikaze (comes with the header)
- Custom
Pipe
- eBay
- Custom (local shop)
High Flow Cat
- RRM sells one with flanges welded on
- Magnaflow Universal (note most mufflers shop won't touch your cat, it's illegal)
Resonators
- Magnaflow
- Flowmaster
- Most exhaust companies make a universal resonator
Mufflers
- Magnaflow
- Buschur
- RRM (axel back)
- RMR
- Flowmaster
- eBay

Get familiar with the search function.
The only amplifier in the car is in the head unit, as with almost any stock audio (particularly in this price range). As for the exhaust...get real familiar with that search function, even though you basically had all the info handed to you on a silver platter. Chances are if you can think of it it's already been asked and answered a dozen times, each with the respondents becoming increasingly more agitated.

actually, if you are replacing the factory cat with a different one it isn't illegal you are maintaining your emissions, the higher flow cat is nice, i like it. i believe Buschur or Road Race dyno'd the difference and the test pipe was 1hp more.
