Failed Inspection
PROBLEM SOLVED...THANKS ALL...
Ok, I just got off the phone with the guy that did my inspection. He said that he was wrong about the paint but the eyelids had to be removed. Easy enough. Thanks for the help.
I just failed my inspection for my 2002 Lancer OZ because of my DIY painted headlamps.
I live in PA.
This is how the law states.
67 Pa. Code § 175.66
g) Condition and Position of Lamps - Lamps
shall be properly fastened; direct light
properly; be of a color not contrary to Tables
II-IV and not be so obstructed by a screen,
bar, auxiliary equipment or a device as to
obscure, change the color of or obstruct
beam.
Any advice. Mine are painted the same as the ones from RRM except I completely painted in the blinker area (blinker still easily visible). And I didn't leave a chrome area on the side for the parking light (which is also easily visible).
The code says not to change the color of the beam, which i didn't. I painted the headlamp area, not the front lense and not the back projector area. I still get the same amount of light emmitting onto the ground as I did stock. Any ideas. Thanks,
ERik

If you painted aything that is supposed to reflect the light (which would cause the direction of the beam) then you're screwed. If nothing you painted has anything to do with creating or reflecting light, and doesn't alter the beam color (which I can't imagine it would if it didn't reflect) then they are being d*cks imo.
yah, try a different place. some places are picky... I failed cause my fogs i installed didnt have a relay switch so when my high beams turned on they turned off....even though i had a switch inside for them.

I'll just take it to a different place, by now i spent 60 bucks on a failed inspection. If i take it to them and prove them wrong though, shouldn't they reinspect for free since i "failed" on a mechanic error.
you know i've been wondering about some of this stuff for a while. Since our cars are relatively new and haven't needed to go to inspection yet, I'm wondering what sort of surprises we'll be in for when some of us fail for certain mods.
I've been told that:
- the cedia lights will fail.
- shaved door handles would fail
- shaved side markers would fail
- headers (or any CEL would fail)
anyone else have any insight on this
sorry to thread hijack but your situation just got me thinking

I've heard PA has the most stringent safety inspection of any state. The blinker was probably what did you in. I would try and get a new lens from the stealership or salvage yard, replace the lens, get inspected, then swap back. Or, just borrow the headlights from a Lancer friend and swap back when you pass inspection.
My other guess would be the eyelid. It's technically obstructing the beam of the light. Remove it just in case.
EDIT: Don't you get a reinspection for free in a certain amount of time? Here you get 10 days to fix your $hit and get reinspected without being charged again.
