Eye lid adventure...

Ok, I've had these eye lids now for about half a year now and they are still not on. I went to a local paint and body shop and asked how much to scuff, pain and clear coat and they want to charge me $100 because they first need to spay it with some kind of paint adhesive!

Thats crazy and they are out of there minds! $100 to paint 2 eye lids?! Yeah, this has officially turned into a DIY. So my plan is to go to Home Depot and get some 600 grit sand paper then go over to Pepe boys and try to get some matching A69 (Silver right?) paint and clear coat and make the best of it.

Am I on the right track and is there any other advice that a vet can give out?

You want to scuff with 220, then prime with an automotive grade primer, sand with 400 to smooth primer, then do 3-5 LIGHT coats with the paint. After the 2nd -3rd coat id say sand with 600 grit, then do your last couple layers. Attch with 3M tape, push down HARD and youre done!

Thats pretty much how it costs everywhere.. which is why I opted not to buy the eyelids.

I opted for carbon fiber rrm eye lids. haha... I used 3m dbl sided tape... even through 1 winter with them on they still stick great... also when hood is done it puts a lot of pressure down on them. sounds like your on the right track for the painting.,

I opted for C/F eyelids. And never installed them.

I had my hood vents painted and it was $100. You just don't realize the prep work and cost of paint for these places. Yes, it's cheaper (cost/size) to get a large piece done, but you're still paying for paint/time/labor, etc.

Yeah. I have your eyelids, Robert. Uninstalled in my trunk.

(Ninja mod edit - My name is Doug. Not Robert. Otherwise it'd be BlacksheepRj. )
