I don't have a garage for my car so I start her up in the morning and scrap the frost off the windows - but the time I am done scraping (~5 minutes) everything is good to go.

I've seen something on the news about that here as well. My OZ is garaged in the winter, warms up 2-3 minutes usually.

I have a remote starter and usualy let her run for about 10 min. My remote starter will tell me the temp inside my car so i usualy go by that. Someone said they turn on the rear defroster before they shut the car off. If i turn mine on before i turn my car off then when i turn my car back on my defroster is off. Is there anything i can do so it stays on?

I also have remote start, too. And my security is still on so I don't worry about theft. If someone did try to take off with it, the engine would shut down.

I have the DEI Viper 791XV. I love it. You can adjust it so that even the wind can set it off, but my parents didn't like it. You can add as many sensors as you want, they make different kinds such as a field, shock or tilt sensor. I added the tilt sensor to protect rims.

Has anyone ever heard that allowing the car to warm up for too long causes the piston rings to deform?

An auto service teacher I once had said to only let the car warm up for 30sec-1min at most, then drive gently until the car warms up. This allows the piston rings to gradually warm and expand under a range of RPMs and this helps avoid leaks in the future.

Well, i've not heard that about the piston rings...but I have been told that the best warm up for your car is to just drive it gently.
