Warming your car in the morning.

Well it's getting close to winter season and this is my first winter with my Lancer and I just want to know how many of you warm your car when it's freezing out. I always have the worry that while I take the 10 min to warm up my car that someone will just pop in and drive away. Does anyone else think about this too much? If this ever does happen, what should anyone do? Call the police? insurance? go on a crazy rampage looking for the loser?

First of all, warming your car in idle for 10 minutes is not a good idea. Warm up only for 2-3 mins and start driving normally.

Good idea, I have another key I keep in my walet, maybe i'll make another small keychain.
I don't understand how it would hurt to warm your car for 10 or more minutes, i wait until the temp gets above the cold line before I start to drive, not like it wastes gas or anything.

I always remote start. By the time I get to the car it has warmed up for at least 4 minutes.
Evo is now very lucky she has a garage to sleep in at night, so only a few minutes warm-up in the morning.

i read from some uk evo site that warming up the car is actually not a good idea because what happens is that you'll be driving with a warmed up motor and a cold transmission which will cause mechanical problems in the future. it says there that you should start driving after starting the car...the only time you would wait about 30 sec. after starting the car is when the temperature is below 30's.

i used to warm up my car a while before driving it but after reading that, it kinda made sense. i just start my car up now, wait between 30 sec. to a minute then start driving.

I got a postcard/flyer from mitsubishi and it said when the needle starts moving you are good to go, but I normally wait til it hits the first line. Try not push it until it reaches normal temps.
