changing struts

ok ive looked all thro the how tos and i cant find anything im helping my friend put new springs on his struts.(not lowering springs) hes just got the new stock springs to go on his shocks. no lowering. but we cant get the top bolt out. we dont have an impact gun to get the bolt off. ive read somewhere that theres a way to get it off without a impact gun. can someone tell me how to do it. sorry for posting if this is the wrong place

my theory is a long rench with a pipe if u have the room or a rench with a small hammer, jus watch where u swing it. haha
im not much on struts but if u use the little white bar on the top of the page labled "search" im sure it wouldnt hurt.

rent an impact wrench... it will make your life so much easier. if the whole strut spins when you're trying to remove that top assembly--step on one end so it stays still and then crank on it with the impact wrench.

From what I remember when doing mine, there may be a groove in the top of the strut bolt for a screw driver or hex key. Basically, you put the closed end of a wrench on your strut nut, and hold the strut shaft in place by locking it up with the screwdriver/key. We used this method on my friends girlfriends car... so I could be totally mixing that and our lancer struts up, but check it out and see none the less. As well, make sure you're using spring compressors for safety.
